I had kind of written off Chvrches after hearing How Not to Drown and not really caring for it. Musically, it's just not really interesting to me. I do like Lauren Mayberry's voice and the lyrics I've read. But now I am a fan for a reason that has nothing to do with the band's music.
I came across this video when searching for Chvrches material after the NME awards performance. For those who can't see the video in their country, it's of Lauren Mayberry taking down a man in the crowd who shouts, "Marry me!" to her. She handled it in exactly the way I would want to handle it. It's not cute, flattering, or funny to do that to women.
I think it's rare to find a woman who will take no sh!t and very publicly call someone out for being a sexist pig. Too many women are uncomfortable doing so and couldn't imagine it. So, for not shying away from speaking out when someone is a d!ck, if not a fan ot Chvrches, I am now definitely a fan of Lauren Mayberry. I raise a beer to you, Lauren!
Perhaps their music will grow on me. Anyone here a fan?
Love her actions too! Just based on that one incident, I do hope that her music will grow on me too!
Side note - I understand/appreciate her actions as well, and TBH, they mirror my own too @notkirstie. And because of my actions, quite of few people judged me for them, but hey, f them right ?
anyway, good in her, it’s refreshing to see!

I'm a fan, think their new album is their best. And they do all seem like good eggs, would like to go and see them next week but can't fit it in. I got a little fix last week though so can't complain.
Love this old clip of them, you can see how much her confidence has grown

Could anyone transcribe what she said, please? I can’t quite understand it with all the people cheering, laughing and booing.

Sure! Here you go!
Douchebag: Marry me! LM: Pardon? DB: Marry me! LM: Aw, c’mon. Do you honestly think that’s gonna… does that… What’s the hit rate on that, when you go to public places and ask women you don’t know <unintelligible>, does that work out well for you, sir? And also, I don’t know, like, I assume, ‘cause you’re here you know a bit about our band, and I’m very grumpy and I don’t want that Shirt. Thank you everybody else, sorry for shaming that one person, but if nobody tells you you’re never gonna know, and luckily for me right now I have a microphone and you don’t, so <unintelligible>.

Like a pro!
Well said, Lauren.
The second “Marry me!” is even worse than the first one, as this guy also says “Now!”
Loving the heckler destruction, nice one Lauren! After some Covid-not-Covid scares am popping out-out for the Brixton gig tonite & hoping El Bobbo will make an appearance…
Dug out my ‘weegie Cure shirt especially (counts as tartan, doesn’t it?) and lo & behold it’s pishing it down with rain again just like it was in Bellahouston Park. If you’re going tonite, have a real good one!
