imo The Cure has always been a 'family business '. So just in case they will arrange any new live dates soon then a bass player will be needed on stage. Gallup left Gallup will join. From father to son. No-one else can fit the gap now. As for the new album,RS said that the only thing that hasn't been done is mixing. Sooner or later it will see the light of day. Credits you said ? Of course Robert Smith : vocals,guitar,six-string bass Jason Cooper : drums and percussion Roger O'Donnell : keyboards Reeves Gabrels : guitars Simon Gallup : other instruments
Bunny Lake : special help in the studio
It has happened before .
Don't forget to turn off the lights and turn on the volume, this music has been mixed to be played LOUD.
If Simon has left on bad terms I don't think Eden will step in
Teddy is the only vaguely realistic candidate I can think of unless they went with an unknown. I'd rather speculate than consider never seeing them again even if without Simon.

Haven't been on the forum for a few days because recovering from a chemo session & the air here is bad from forest fires. Adding to the post chemo ugliness. I've been afraid to look at this thread. Anyway, that being said I think that if the Cure are going to continue as a live band I think a great choice for a bass player would be Gail Ann Dorsey. Simon's son is probably not going to want to do it. The personal politics would be messy on that one. I thought about Peter Hook but I don't think he'd be into an autocratic situation like the Cure. Gail Ann is a fabulous musician, worked under David Bowie for a real long time so she's used to having a strong leader. + she played with Reeves for years, too. It would be interesting & I really don't see how the band could do better.
I couldn't agree more Gail Ann Dorsey, would be perfect and she was the immediate wishful replacement for me to take on the Gallup roster! Having worked with Reeves in the (Bowie band for five years. She is also apparently close with Robert and has performed with Robert. They both know incredible she is!I've heard from a close friend of hers) I wouldn't be surprised and I dare say Incredibly happy.

Damn, this doesn't make the Simon quitting problem any better. To have Porl, start cryptically throwing shade at Robert? Scary and concerning. I really hope Robert isn't in trouble! I hope we don't discover that he was some kind of immoral pig, or worse did anything inexcusable! The dirt is flying about!

Well we know Roger and Porl cannot stand each other. So when Robert brought back Roger, Porl had to go again and is probably still pissed.
Let them end things in peace if that's what they wish. GOD FORBID they turn into the Rolling Stones. Seriously, would that make *anyone* happy?
They owe nobody anything, We have their music. C'est fin.
Agree with your point. but one last album and one last tour wouldn't so bad
That would be a dream. I am hoping I get to meet some people here at future shows for the first time. The only person I’ve met from here IRL has been the lovely finalsound at the HoF show. Alas, I’m doubtful.

I agree with you. The meet and greets are a blast really fun. Would love to meet you friend.
Since I found out I've been through different stages of processing the news. From disbelief, through sadness and anger, to the bitter sense of a loss.
Although I've always believed that The Cure is Robert Smith, 2019 proved that not entirely and for sure not now. At the moment, I can't imagine The Cure without Simon and I can't imagine the new album release and touring. Credits are one thing but the other is that I can't see any other bassist as Simon's replacement. It won't be The Cure anymore, just RS's supporting band.
Procrastination with the release of new material, described as the best thing the band has ever recorded, and focusing on the projects of doubtful value have been bothered me for a long time. Of course, it's only a speculation but it's really hard to believe they had had nothing in common with what happened. And that's a very sad thought.
I can't rule out the possibility that I will move on to another stage but that's the way I'm feeling right now.
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.
