Yeah. They're getting a bit of stick on the twitters since that tweet . I think the bottom line is, it's not really their place to post an official situation update nor to convey information from what I assume was a private conversation. Janie & Chris have been close to the band for decades & I guess the last thing they want to do is betray their trust like that or they'd get cut off real quick in the future. But the sooner Bob's or the band's official feed speaks up the sooner all the speculation will die down one way or another.
This tweet from Chris sounds like a confirmed and closed case to me. So sad really.
I had a brief (Messenger) chat with Chris this morning and he said then he had spoken to Simon at the weekend, but out of respect would not elaborate about what was said..
My main concern was Simon's wellbeing and he said he is doing OK..
I can't see him being replaceable at all. It'll be as awkward as Tim Brechno covering for Simon Hinklers' absence all those years ago.(*) Bad Seeds without Mick Harvey, Iron Maiden with Blaze Bailey, Black Sabbath without Bill Ward..actually, that guy who took on the last Black Sabbath tour was astonishingly good...hrmmm..You think there's hope? I can't see any right now but yup...I didn't think Bill was replaceable either. Maybe.
(* The horror of it...I hitched to the Pink Pop festival in 1990 I think it was...And seeing some Kajagoogoo guitar player where Simon should be...yuk! Just the horror of that gig)
I can't see how he can be replaced is all. Awful thought.
Bad Seeds & Iron Maiden both survived & prospered. If the Stones can replace (temporarily?) Charlie Watts anything is possible. If you look at it, the Cure is Robert Smith. They've had lots of personnel changes over the years (including Simon) & survived just fine. My question would be is Robert going to continue. He's been having rumblings about the alleged album is the last one & seems more interested with sort of questionable to some people pop bands. Maybe he's in a Ponce deLeon phase, looking for the fountain of youth. He's only a couple of years older than me & once you get past 60 mortality really starts rearing its ugly head.
ok... it's their life and whatever... but they cannot bury with a tweet over 30 years of passion, and I don't even have Tweeter! I deserve (we all do) at least a clear reason for it...

He didn't tweet it. He posted it on his personal farcebook account. & I would say that any personal reason(s) for his decision are nobody else's business but his. Anything more than a "We can confirm Simon's left" is only going to serve as a launch pad for a zillion theories of which 99.9% are completely untrue & will in no way change the situation.

Well, I don't have any facebook account as well, but it doesn't matter at all. Anyway, I am not talking about personal reasons, but something like ... do The Cure still exist? Probably I have always been wrong thinking that in some way we were something special, at the end the only important thing is spending money to buy stuff

Of course there is another theory behind Simon "leaving", I know you've all thought it but were just waiting for me to bring it up as I have experience with the culprit. Simon was abducted by aliens who then hacked his FaceBook page. No but, seriously, say some devilish person has kidnapped Simon locked him up in her basement, has him in shackles and has sent the FaceBook message as a ruse for his silence. Who would be so evil you ask?? Come on you know ......
AUDREY GRANT HAS KIDNAPPED SIMON.
Did she give up on Boris?
He climbed out the kitchen window, Simon's jeans were too tight so he couldn't gbend his legs enough
Let them end things in peace if that's what they wish. GOD FORBID they turn into the Rolling Stones. Seriously, would that make *anyone* happy?
They owe nobody anything, We have their music. C'est fin.
This ^^^^ Lets give the guy a break & a bit of respect. Music journalistsbloggers hacks are currently falling over themselves to get some sort of salacious gossip from the band right now to turn into click bait . Maybe he's just had enough after 40 years. Sad yes. But what a ride it was while it lasted.

Oh I so agree with this statement. When a romantic relationship ends, we typically don’t find (or at least I personally don’t pry) out the reason why it ended unless one of the parties tells us explicitly. And we then accept it for what it is. IMO -This is how it should be/look like.
Of course though, I’ll miss his presence in the band immensely.
imo The Cure has always been a 'family business '. So just in case they will arrange any new live dates soon then a bass player will be needed on stage. Gallup left Gallup will join. From father to son. No-one else can fit the gap now. As for the new album,RS said that the only thing that hasn't been done is mixing. Sooner or later it will see the light of day. Credits you said ? Of course Robert Smith : vocals,guitar,six-string bass Jason Cooper : drums and percussion Roger O'Donnell : keyboards Reeves Gabrels : guitars Simon Gallup : other instruments
Bunny Lake : special help in the studio
It has happened before .
Don't forget to turn off the lights and turn on the volume, this music has been mixed to be played LOUD.
