I didn't see it that way till I read this perspective..Yeah...It's odd to go announdicing on social media that your no longer in an inactive band...I can't see it being a permanent thing...Maybe he needs to to be heard and respected over an indoor argument/discussion whatever...
I was hoping it was a wind-up, a bit of bantz, but now I’m thinking this is more of a Killing Joke situation with the wheels falling off the machine. Roger’s Lol-baiting was already really old, too. Still, a bit of drama might provoke some poetry???
Bit of a detour from thread title, but I don't get why they don't do an instrumental album - it's way high time, a kind of Cocteaus/Michael Nyman/Mortiis thing
I'd guess the Gorillaz stuff can't help - actually recording and releasing something and then playing it live while your own band kick their heels waiting years for vocals.
It’s all over the interwebs this morning so sadly I’m more convinced now. I’m not into vilifying anyone about this but I do think making an announcement like that on social media is unprofessional and, “maybe not the best idea.” I wouldn’t really expect that of a 60+ year old person unless they were lacking in judgment or maturity or having a difficult time of it. As we’re pretty much all having a difficult time of it now for a *very* sustained period of time, I can’t help but feel concern for Simon’s state of mind. I can’t imagine he is feeling very good right now, no matter the circumstances.
I’m sad, but not overwhelmingly so. The guys are getting up there and they certainly don’t owe anyone continuing this venture. It’s been a long ride. I can’t imagine wanting to stay on one project for so long.
If this has anything to do with Robert’s recent collaborations, I bear him no ill will and am only happy for him. He seemed to look genuinely happy playing with Gorillaz. Creativity takes feeling inspired. Perhaps he’s finding new inspiration, which is great. It does matter if anyone cares for what he’s doing that’s new, as long as he’s enjoying himself.
Of course TC can’t last forever, nothing can. The guys deserve a break, already.

FLOPBERT: YEAH, COCERNING THE NEW ALBUM....THIS IS A KIND OF SOUR POINT FOR ME. WE WERE REALLY PRETTY CLOSE TO RELEASE IT....BUT...UHM....AFTER SIMON LEAVING THE BAND...YEAH, I FEEL LIKE WE ARE NOT THE SAME BAND ANYMORE.....NOT THE BAND WE WERE TWO YEARS AGO WHEN WE RECORDED IT...IT REALLY DOESN´T FEEL RIGHT TO RELEASE IT ANYMORE UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES, AT LEAST NOT NOW.....THINKING ABOUT TO RELEASE IT IN A COUPLE OF YEARS FOR FREE...UHM....I SIMPLY DON´T KNOW.

Where is this from?
It's a play on what Bob said about the dark partner to 4:13 after Porl left.
Sorry for confusion. Sadly, I can see it totally happen, if Simon really left the band. Or maybe the songlist could change, if Simon demands to remove the songs he composed. Would be really a shame. From what I understood from Roberts last interview, the words and singing were finally done (after his major problems) and the record only needed to be mixed.
I'm watching the socials with interest & it's quite cringe-worthy to see the usual suspects tweeting the same story based on a farcebook post a zillion times from various music "journalists"* who seem to get their "scoops" from social media these days.
*fairly loose definition of the word journalist. Hacks would be a more accurate description.

Exactly, all conjecture is completely ridiculous and just fodder for the rumor mill. But that's what people seem to thrive on, so no surprise.
