Was just listening to "Play" -- the (2nd) b-side of "High" and wondered if it was a 'Disintegration' castoff. I can't find any documentary evidence but certainly musically and thematically it fits. It didn't make it onto the deluxe album, and wasn't played with the Disintegration live set of b-sides and previously unreleased material, which would have been the best tip-off. Anyone have thoughts, or really any information on the origins of "Play"? It doesn't help that the title is so generic one cannot effectively google search it.
It could well be as Robert has been known to recycle older songs. But there's no record of it ever being included in the Disintegration rehearsals/ sessions. At least not according to Henrik's information which is usually pretty accurate.
I don't think so. But chronologically Disintegration and Wish are close and it's normal that there's some continuity in sound (for me, The Big Hand is the closest to the atmosphere of the Disintegration album). I remember reading that initially Wish was supposed to be a sort of Disintegration #2, gloomy and atmospheric, and only later on its material got more diverse, to the point that, then, they considered the idea of a double album, a la KMKMKM, but with a darker half and a poppier half, which, in the end, didn't happen.
