For me it is album... actually it was probably first album I've ever heard from them (my cousin had just this on cassette back in 1991). I still like songs from it (except for The Walk and Speak My Language - I don't mind those though).

You can't just arbitrarily decide that someone else's work is this or that that wasn't the artist's intention, it's disrespectful to the artist. The evidence suggests that the Cure themselves do Not consider JW to be an album, and that is how we all must regard it. /verdict

I still reckon the answer hangs between what the definition of “album” is and what the artist understands it to be or intended it to be, or how they interpreted it.
The definite answer is that there is no definitive answer until you define the word “album”, and the artist’s intent and understanding relative to the definition..
