Looks like we're going to have to wait until September for the next Song Machine episode/song. Favorites from the current song cycle? For me, although I'm not a huge Peter Hook fan, I really like Aries. His playing instantly gives the song a New Order vibe. I also love Momentary Bliss' 4AD-meets-toastmaster/ska approach. And the new one that dropped this week -- Pac-Man -- is also an easy favorite for me.
The Now Now didn't really get a chance to sink in (same as The Fall..).
The Hooky one sticks out like a sore thumb, I need to make a playlist without all the skits and nonsense to make sense of it all. The grooves and melodies aren't jumping out yet.
I did buy a very groovy Noodle shirt in their summer sale though!

Humanz is like the perfect soundtrack to the apocalypse! I have really fallen in love with The Now Now over the last couple of years. It is probably my favorite Gorillaz album at this point. It feels the most cohesive of their output to my ear. Would definitely recommend you give it another go. The Fall is their only album I don't care for. Never really took hold for me.
I am loving the Song Machine song cycle. Bummed we have to wait until September for another track, though. I posted this in the What are you listening to right now? thread earlier this week, czuczu, but here is a Spotify playlist I made with just the singles/no skits.
I copied the official playlist, deleted all the crap so got the same stuff as yours Already so much easier to listen to without the skits.
Have they toured much in the States? Plastic Beach and Humanz got decent shows over here with loads of guest vocals but we completely missed out on The Now Now stuff. Weird seeing his solo band go from tiny club gigs to becoming the Gorillaz in enormodomes..

They seem to hit between six to 12 US cities each tour, with the exception of Demon Days where I think they only played NYC.
I saw them on the Humanz tour. Was able to get into the soundcheck and then was on the rail for the show. Was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Guests galore! De La Soul, Jehnny Beth, Zebra Katz, Jamie Principle, and more, plus Vince Staples (who also was the opening act).
They don't play enormodomes here. Usually seem to be around 5,000 seat venues. But I know what you mean. It's weird to see bands you saw in dank clubs play arenas years later. I saw Nine Inch Nails and The Black Keys so many times back in their respective day (late '80s and early 2000s) in tiny clubs around northeast Ohio. Now they play on a huge scale. I actually presented a paper at the Pop Conference that touched on that topic. Such a weird thing.

Great shots! That first one is from "Superfast Jellyfish" isn't it? Plastic Beach is right up there with The Now Now in my personal favorites among their discography, and I love that song! Got to hear it multiple times that night because they played it during the soundcheck.
Mos Def! THAT is fantastic! (The New Danger is such a fantastic album.) And to have him for "Sweepstakes"... So cool.
And you had Pauline Black! Love The Selecter. I just read her autobiography a month or so back. Fantastic read. Recommended!
Had to look it up on setlist.fm to remember... we had Little Simz was at my show, too. Along with Peven Everett.
If I squint a bit then it looks like Posdnuos so yep, think so! My phone has the worst camera ever..
Pauline Black had a completely different take on Hard Charger, nothing like the Grace Jones one (which sounds very stitched together). Trying to remember who else turned up, Coxon and Gallagher definitely played with Jehnny Beth.
Did you see the Plastic Beach tour too? He had a crazy all-star band with him, I think we got every studio guest except Lou Reed and Snoop. And half the Clash
