On to Norway now & we can’t mention Norway without doffing our caps to award winning Magrathean coastline designer Slartibartfast whose meticulous work on the fjords is undeniably beautiful to this day.
The fjords were also home to the (now extinct) Norwegian Blue parrot who, after pining for the fjords, has ceased to be. Remarkable bird though, the Norwegian Blue. Beautiful plumage.
The 4th most expensive city in the world was previously named Kristiana after it had been rebuilt due to a fire that destroyed it in 1624. It wasn’t until 1925 that authorities decided Christian IV had been dead long enough that they wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings & renamed it Oslo which was much easier to type.
Tonight we visit Tøyen Park which also features a water park, so don’t forget your swimming cossies & get on those water slides. More importantly (& a massive The Cure link here) it’s next to the Munch museum that houses the picture that Edvard himself named after a track on 4:13 Dream & not after Siouxsie & The Banshees’ debut album as first thought.
As for it’s international profile, it’s fair to say the city wasn’t really on the map until pioneers of very small guitars, a-ha stormed MTV (when it still played music) with the video for international uber hit, Take On Me & Bobbysocks won Eurovision the same year.
Anyway, after comprehensively cluing everyone in on Oslo, let’s turn to the show. Heading there tonight are johnz , rosered , nothingleftbutfaith & indi14 who we hope have a brilliant time once they’ve gobbled up their Kjøttkaker & guzzled plenty of Ringnes.
Now, the festival poster is a bit lacking in colours, so we’ll try to lift some colours from the city’s seal. Not these seals (although they are in the fjords), but this one.
