I couldn't skip this one when I saw it being removed from Netflix offer, I had to go back to it. This time it was mainly because of late Sean Connery, the second hero of my early teens. As Jim Malone he stole the whole show and even the worst Irish accent in the film history couldn't stop him from that Amazing charisma...
I would be unfair though if I didn't mention the train station scene - a timeless masterpiece. It still leaves an incredible impression.
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.

The press on the Billie Eilish doc is crazy. People saying it’s the best music doc, etc. It’s not.
I’m not a fan of hers. I only kinda sorta know that one song. I was hoping to learn more about her and come away with an appreciation and some insight. Instead, I walked away thinking she and her brother are pretty talented, but realizing teenage girl drama is widespread (at one point I told my wife “maybe I’d relate to this more if we’d raised a girl”), realizing I would never want to be at one of her shows, and deciding that her family both recognized and nurtured her and her brother’s talent but also kowtowed and indulged her. It felt like a “warts and all” vanity project, a bit of a mess. Madonna’s Truth or Dare comes to mind (but I haven’t seen that film in decades, so maybe not a great comparison). When the movie ended I told my wife it was ok, but I didn’t learn anything about Eilish.
Eilish’s story seems a bit “lottery winner odds,” and not the “battle and hours of trying different things to get the right results.” The length of her backstory and lack of substance make it hard to imagine a documentary with much more. Especially clocking in at 2 hours and 20 minutes! There is not the punk to pop story of the GoGos, the risk and label fighting of Tom Petty, nor the suicide and rebuilding of New Order. Ultimately, it felt pretty vacuous.
You are up early! I'm recovering from a bout of chemo & can't sleep so it's movie night. Watching it right now. As is often the case, the sequel isn't as good as the original but it's ok. It appears that newcomers Tracy Morgan & especially Leslie Jones steal the movie. You have best day!

I was restless last night and barely slept. Thinking I’ll nap later today.
I liked the original movie, so glad to hear the sequel was okay! I’m sure I’ll watch it at some point.
