I put this concept up on the NIN thread but realize that isn't everyone's cup of tea or whatever you are imbibing being held prisoner in your own castle. Today, Trent Reznor released 2 new NIN albums for free download or streaming. Ghosts V & VI. Total surprise. I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if Robert released maybe 1 of the 3 records he said he has ready or nearly ready to go this way. It doesn't have to be the main new one, no pressure. I'd be happy with the one he was doing for himself! I think we are all going to be cooped up to some extent for quite awhile. It sure would be lovely to hear some new music from Robert & the rest of the band!

Wouldn't that be cool? I think Robert may be a bit too old school for that kind of stuff but who knows. Any new music will be welcome.
you have a point, haha. i know you're not a fan but the gesture by Trent was nice. the music is good, too. all instrumental. this was just my scatter brain wishful thinking. i'm hurting above the usual from this nerve thing. i suspect the new RA drug (which i have stopped) triggered it. that & no anti inflammatory means its a world of hurt & i can't sleep. i should be unconscious at least for awhile but it's not working. i'm binge watching twin peaks: the return. it's awesome! we've got free showtime for a month so able to watch it.

The end of the last episode is really quiet - you need to turn your sound all the way up
So they are indeed working on the new album right now (no corona lock down) according to Roger:
"As for future plans with The Cure and whisperings around their long-awaited new album, O’Donnell told NME: “We’re finishing the record, it’s pretty much done. Whenever Robert does an interview, it’s interesting for the rest of the band to find out what we’re doing as well! But we’re just mixing and mastering the record now."
“I’m sure what’s going on now is going to [delay] it, but it’s pretty much finished,” confirmed O’Donnell. “But who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow? We wouldn’t be able to promote it with shows or anything at the moment. It’s an amazing record though, I can tell you that…”
Unfortunately the band seems to think the album cannot be promoted in these times, which is really a bit odd. While I understand that they are eager to present it live immediately in front of an audience (which they cannot do for obvious reason) they still can promote it via magazines/radio stations/TV and online (they could even present it via live stream online).
Just took a look what bands/artists are releasing an album next time despite Corona:
"The Killers", "Paradise Lost", "Moby", "Alicia Keys", "Bon Jovi", "Weezer".....and that are only a coupe of examples (all May releases).
And The Cure cannot release an album? Come on boy´s. Let´s do it.!!!
By the way, Roger telling in one of these interviews they cannot promote the Cure album, while at the same time promoting his own album in times of Corona (by giving this interwiew) is a bit strange.
I think there is more than a bit of "well, that's the way we've always done it" syndrome going on. the music industry robert grew up with (& i worked in for over 25 years) is dead & gone. perhaps some fresh thinking is in order. there are very few artists actually making money off record sales anymore unless they are owning the whole process themselves. & the payments for streaming are a bad joke. so, maybe the reluctance to put it out without being able to present it isn't totally out of line. all in all, i think we are still going to be waiting.
Even The Rolling Stones just released a new song a couple of days ago (first song in 8 years) and will be part of the „One World: Together At Home“ Stream-Concert. And they are living dinosaurs.
When you've taken the time to make sure this is the best thing you've ever done, then you make sure the conditions for unleashing it are right too. As Roger said, it's not actually finished. Only Robert will know when that moment is. Besides, to my knowledge, every The Cure release has been a physical item. A CD, a record, a cassette. Mixing & mastering still need to be finished, pressing plates made & production started & with the majority of the population told to stay at home unless they are working in key jobs, that's not going to start any time soon is it? Promotion is different. If Roger chooses to promote his album in a certain way, then that's entirely his prerogative I think. His product, his choice. So what if The Killers, Paradise Lost, Moby, Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Weezer have released product? That doesn't mean The Cure have to do the same. They've always done what they want in their own way.
Great to hear that something is happening! As we know, RS is totally old school when it comes to releasing music and that is unlikely to change. Well, it's his music and his choice. We can expect them to want to tour the album so the release date can't be too far away from the tour. With things being what they are, my guess is a release late this year or early next year and a tour in spring. But what do I know. Right now I'm just happy that the album is progressing and that it sounds promising.
