Before we get stuck into the live updates, let’s have the customary bit of history on today’s venue.
Hyde park was originally going to be called Jekyll Park, but town planners didn’t think that sounded edgy enough.
It was established by Henry VIII who took his name from the 1965 hit by Herman’s Hermits & used for hunting peasants before being opened to the public & people who wanted to shoot each other.
It is a national hub of free speech with the original Speaker’s Corner facilitating crazy people predicting asteroid collisions with the earth & the impending arrival of spaghetti monsters.
Unlike Wimbledon Common, which has a dedicated cleaning crew, Hyde Park was subject to government cutbacks & so relies on the general public to take their litter home with them
And venturing to the show with a dizzying array of designated tickets, such as “Smile nicely for early entry”, “The Jimmy Krankie beer garden” & “Roll your trousers up for a paddle in the lake access” tickets will be…wait for it….
