At the playground after school today: I noticed a bunch of kids standing around in a crowd cheering on a scene down in a blocked off area. Got closer and there was a group of about nine 7 & 8 year old boys, my progeny included, beating the tar out of each other like they were in a gladiator pit. I'm too old for this sh!t.

Uh oh - how much trouble is he in ?
Lol, he’s not in trouble. But he did get punched in the eye and started crying in a different tussle. I don’t think there’s honestly much that can be done to stop the boys playing that way. I broke it up.

😊
Had I had done that, I would have been shipped off to a reform School. 😉
This actually happened last night, but it made for a totally confusing end to my day yesterday.
Walking home from the subway at 7:00 p.m. but it was dark, of course. There is a highway overpass I have to cross to get to our street. The overpass is covered, so it looks kind of like a tunnel. As I approached it, I could see someone lying on the ground in the middle of it with two people standing over them. I then saw the person on the ground was lying in a pool of blood that seemed to be coming from their mid-section and had some kind of weapon lying next to them. I stopped walking and asked what was going on and had someone called emergency services. One of the people standing was filming on their phone. I then began to worry they were the attackers and were filming the results of their attack. I said something like, "What the fark is going on?!" and the standing people heard me. I was frozen in place. One of them walked towards me and said, "We're filming" and the other one started laughing
I honestly thought I had happened upon some horrific attack or accident. It really shook me. Now I can kind of laugh about it, but at the time, it was not, not, not funny.

I wouldn’t have found that funny either; I would have been horrified.
I went to the Whole Foods across the street after dance class. Remembered I needed soap and headed down the body care aisle. Spike Lee was standing in front of the shelf I needed to get to, so I had to ask him to excuse me. I guess he likes to hit his neighborhood store later at night to look at lotions and potions.
I guess I have a resistance to local anesthesia. The dentist put a crown on today and it took him three separate times over the course of about an hour to get me numb. I could feel him drilling after the first round of shots but was just trying to tolerate it as long as I could. Then he figured out I actually wasn't numb. He must have given me about 8 shots of various things in the mouth. All different gauges of needles. My jaw is so sore I couldn't open it enough to eat dinner.

8 shots is really much... So sorry as I think that shots are one of the most unpleasant things you can feel on the dentist chair. Not counting pain of course. I hope you have all that dentist thing behind you.
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.
Did a lot of walking around with the progeny and my mom, who is visiting. Because he is 8 and she is 80, I felt like I was doing double duty making sure humans made it across streets safely.
On our way home in our neighborhood I noticed a man sitting in the passenger seat of a van by himself covered in blood. As is my habit, I walked towards a sketchy situation. I realized the man was Jewish Orthodox, and as such, he is not supposed to talk to a woman who is not his wife, especially a shiksa like me. The door on his side was wide open. At first I thought he might have been shot, because there was so much blood, all over his head, all over his white dress shirt. I asked him what had happened and he said he had fallen two blocks away and walked to his vehicle. He wanted to drive away until I made him aware of how much he was bleeding from his head. I gave him a washcloth I had been carrying in my bag to apply direct pressure and suggested he recline his seat to slow down the blood. He called the special Jewish ambulance service and they got there fast. They thanked me when they arrived and we went on our way. My son was slightly disturbed by all the blood but everything ended up OK.
I will be wondering about that stranger for a while.
