How about a thread dedicated to dance of any and every kind? I think RS is a great dancer because he has his own style that is authentically, unadulterated "him." So this could be a place for dance related to TC, unrelated to TC, related to whales, trees, milk cartons, etc., etc.
Dance has always been my favorite art form because there is no intermediary, you are just using your body to interpret music or express something. You don't have to worry about tuning an instrument, mixing colors, or anything else. You are always prepared. There is also nothing else I know that can make you feel like you have the ability to fly of your own volition (maybe jumping out of a plane, but no thanks).
Here is a montage of excerpts from four pieces from the repertoire of Alvin Ailey. My absolute favorite is the second one (men in red and white costumes), "Grace". I'm po'd I can't find the whole thing to include. The other pieces are Chroma (the first one, I don't love it but the score is by Jack White), Takademe (a kickass solo) and the classic, joyous Revelations.
Here is choreography to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring by the late, great Pina Bausch and her Tanztheater Wuppertal:
Please share dance you love, hate, laugh at, cry at, etc. here! Save
Very excited to see that Sasha Walz's piece Kreatur is coming to us in November. Her work is hard hitting and I haven't seen any of it in over a decade.
I stayed with my mentor and first modern dance teacher last week. She had all of these pictures of performances I was in about 25 years ago, which I don't have any copies of. So I took pictures of her pictures because we ran out of time to scan them. Youth is wasted on the young, lol.
Some of the photos contain my fellow company member Amanda, who took her life two years ago this August. It's still hard to think about.

I was so mad I had to wear this 1970's unitard.

You look so beautiful in your photos!
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Losing someone that way is tough to deal with.

Aw, thanks so much, Danielle. Dance training teaches you to be hyper self-critical, so I always felt lacking. I wish I hadn't.
And yes, sadly I've lost four people that way. No more, please.
I went to see Ronald K. Brown's Evidence dance company at The Joyce Theater with a friend last Saturday. We made the decision and bought tickets the same day.
Little did I know they would be performing one of my favorite dance pieces of all time, Grace (video clip at the top of this thread), which Brown choreographed on the Alvin Ailey company. I have never seen it live. I had gotten out a tissue in case I cried, but I didn't need it.
It was so nice to be part of a dance audience that wasn't 98% white. There was so much more vocal appreciation of the dancers because of that cultural difference. AND, people were dancing in their seats, which made me feel more comfortable because I can't help moving.
The opening piece, Open Door, had a love band on stage, the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble. There is nothing like dancing with live musical accompaniment. You get a lot of energy off the musicians, and they also pay close attention to the dancers and adjust their tempo, etc. accordingly as needed.
I liked the middle piece, The Equality of Night and Day, but I didn't agree with Brown's choice to place the principal dancer in the piece inside a tight circle at the end, which totally obscured her movements.
Grace was beautiful, but unfortunately, not as beautiful as the recordings I've seen of Ailey's company performing it. The dancers in Brown's company aren't *quite* as proficient as those in Alvin Ailey's, so I wasn't surprised. That isn't meant to be a dig, and the dancers in Evidence are amazing and top notch, but Ailey dancers are world class.
This isn't really dance but I don't know where else to put it (up my arse?!).
I was fooling around on my favorite balance training tool, the Bosu half-round. It's a platform topped by an air-filled dome, excellent for strengthening all the muscles big and small that help keep you stable and balanced. I had put on one of my favorite tracks from Upper Wilds' Guitar Module 2017 album, "Vampire Cranes." There isn't much "action" (that is, it's kinda boring) but I really like the way the movement ended up coordinating with the different parts of the song and it's such a rad song. My arms also make me feel like a bird in this. I lost my balance at the end because I let my moving leg get too far off my center line.
BTW, if you like the music please consider buying the album. It's important.
