I can't do the main back catalogue, everything between Wish and 4.13 is less important though.
Standing on a Beach Because of a long summer with the tape in the car. Didn't matter whose car, the tape was always there. And it had the B sides.
Entreat Because of the HMV CD promotion - buy 3(?) back catalogue CDs and get Entreat. So I upgraded all my tatty old tapes and vinyl.
Concert / Curiosity Another tape! And a different summer but this was the soundtrack of my daily commute. Bought from the Our Price in Basildon, I spent a lot of time in there..
4.13 Dream Because Porl was back and they toured so I went to see them for the first time in over 10 years. And they were good again. Good songs, shame about the mix/mastering.
And Dreams Come True in 92 Not the absolute best quality (since been topped by the FM>DAT) but what a show and what a boot
OK, because I find it easier to identify my *least* favorite albums by TC, here is a pessimist's view, starting from the bottom:
14: 4:13 Dream (wake me when it's over, please) 13. The Cure 12. Wild Mood Swings (few songs I like, but a couple of gems - NOT Mint Car!) 11. The Top (same as above; I'm looking at you, Piggy and Dressing Up) 10. Three Imaginary Boys (a f^ckload better than what most humans barely out of their adolescence could muster, I reckon) 9. Japanese Whispers 8. Wish 7. Kiss Me 6. Seventeen Seconds 5. The Head on the Door 4. Bloodflowers 3. Faith 2. Disintegration 1. Pornography
P.S. Ask me tomorrow and you shall get a different answer, very likely. Not too different, but I hate picking favorites, because it always feels unfair.
I'll put it this way : The Cure Albums in importance order in my life 1st) Standing On A Beach (cassette version which included the b'sides) i even had the walkman on repeat playin' while i was sleeping for almost a couple of years. 2nd) wish album, the first one i ever bought as a compact disc. Actually the first i ever bought and the reason i even bought a compact disc player/stereo back in 1992 ... 3rd) Wild Mood Swings. Back in 1996 i forced to join the Army, only thing that made me happy back then was when accidentally i listened that The Cure would release a new single called The 13th... And i said, yes!Boys Are Back In Town.Loved it,still do.Probably one of the very few in the world. But I Don't Care!
BUT if you'd ask me which ones i think are the most important THE CURE albums well then the case is different.
If we are talking about the ones I have worn out the most it is in this order.
