I had a record player bought for me as a Christmas present with KMKMKM on vinyl. Loving it! but now I want to buy more Cure albums. The thing is, they are really expensive so I'll have to buy them slowly. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend which ones I get first? Should I go for the older albums as they were probably originally recorded for vinyl, or try the newer ones (I love Bloodflowers) and see what they sound like compared to cd? Not sure which way to jump 🤔
wonderful christmas present! i got one two years ago and it is one of my favourite presents ever...from my parents! haha
with the records i would just start with what you feel like, no strategy. guess you know all the songs anyway many albums have been rereleased in recent years, or do you want to try discogs for used ones? my first was standing on a beach and then i got them as they were available or marked as "nice price". as for for atmosphere i really love seventeen seconds and faith on records, maybe cause they sound so raw and spartanic in a way, just my preference.
Avoid any of the recent 180g vinyls. The claim that they are sonically superior is total nonsense. The sonics come from the mastering & pressing & nothing to do with the weight of the disc. Also avoid any coloured vinyl. It is inferior quality material chucked in presses set up for regular black vinyl resulting in a poor pressing. & definitely, most definitely don't buy any picture discs unless you want to make a nice looking wall clock. The surface vinyl on those is buried under a photo & a another layer of lacquer on top & they sound dreadful. I would search for good condition original pressings really. Check on discogs too. You'll get some better prices than on evilbay
Thanks. I wasn't just having a look for Bloodflowers but they are crazy prices! Why is that? It looks like it might have had a limited print maybe?
You'll find that albums released after the birth of CD will have had fewer vinyl pressings as people moved over to the newer format & so won't be as readily available as earlier albums. But keep hunting and add it to your want list on discogs. Something will turn up

Never heard of discogs but will certainly have a look. Thanks 😊
nice present, i got my first record player 31 years ago, get the original faith album cheap, from what steve refers to as evilbay
Sad to say that this is second time round for me. Did away with my record player in the 90's and got a CD player (after arguing with hubby that cds would never catch on and only giving in when it became impossible to buy vinyl anymore). My kids bought me this one for Christmas and I feel like a teenager again 😊 It's been good to know how something works and my children having to ask me for help!

Discogs is wonderful most of my Cure records that weren't bought locally or from other Cure fans came almost solely from there .
I also saw your post above about Bloodflowers and it was a record I had spent many years looking for as it's one of my favourites/favourite ever but two years ago my partner bought it for me for Christmas He got it from Discogs I believe as it was on both of our wantlists. I'd definetly recommend that wantlist As Steve mentioned there were fewer pressings and also it was not released on vinyl in many countries compared to a lot of previous albums. Wish, WMS and Bloodflowers in particular are probably the most expensive in my experience of studio albums.
So lovely to hear you were given a record player and KMKMKM for Christmas so sweet of your children! Happy hunting!
