I've know The Cure since 1985 and the big success, in my country, of "The head on the Door" .
For me, then, it was just a band like the others, the ones you watch on TV and listen on radio whith pleasure but that you never buy any of their records, be it single or album.
I really became a fan in summer 1994. Perhaps it was nostalgia but when I saw the video of Inbetween Days, it made me buy the album in the following couple of days.
About a week or two later, there was a one hour special about The cure on french musical network MCM. No talk, only videos.
Altough this was the first time I heard Primary, Charlotte and The Walk with the knowledge it was Cure songs, I immedialty realized that I knew those melodies. I knew them from a long time ago, probably when they were first released!!!!!!
So I bought the old albums and loved them, I was hooked. I took me about a month to have the remains of the discography. Then I bought Orange and Show and found few bootlegs (Sydney 80 is my first one).
Hope to have interesting talk with you on this forum.
The first time I heard "Killing an Arab", when I bought Peel Session Cassette, I said to myself :
"But... this descirbe the main scene of "The Stranger", by Albert Camus".
I have read this book two times in school and about 20 times at home for my self-pleasure.
And when I read that it was indeed the case and that this book was one of Robert's favourite, and one of the main reasons he loves France, the soft spot I had for Cure became love.
Edit : The peel sessions is the second record I bought, few days after the One hour special.
i would luv to visit france. for awhile, i was working closely with latecoerre & thought i was going to be able to go for work but it fell through. maybe someday.
Welcome vilak! I love your story about falling in love with the Cure...that all those little pieces came together into one I hope you get to enjoy the Cure live this fall!
For Sang : My passion for Depeche Mode grew about the same way. One rock after another in a pair of month and then you face a big wall of love. As it was also in summer 94, Depeche Mode and Cure are two faces of the same coin in the construction of my musical Taste as a grown man.
For Melly; Je préfère la bière....
Thanks everyone for your warm welcome.
I think that I will indeed spend good moments here.
