Hey all!
I probably jumped the gun by starting THIS THREAD (about looking for a recording of the Ridgefield '16 show) before saying hello here, but what's done is done, eh?
Anyway!
I was 15 when "Disintegration" came out, and you can figure it out a bit from there, I suppose. It blew my mind.
As a kid growing up in Worcester, MA, I'd known of the band but was never exposed to their music on local radio. But in 1989, thanks to MTV's "120 Minutes" and a few mutual friends, my world expanded exponentially. After "Disintegration", I bought "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" which (at the time) didn't have the same impact on me, since the sound wasn't as lush and dreamy. I loved "Wish", too, upon it's release, and I gradually worked my way further backward into the band's catalog once I had some cash (at age 15, I didn't) and better access to the previous albums via used CD stores in Boston when I went to college.
Over time, I began to understand and appreciate that I'd jumped into fandom during a monumental turning point in the band's sound, and in time I grew to love the previous records more than I did upon those first few listens. (Though, if I'm being honest, "Disintegration" is likely to forever be nearest and dearest to my heart.)
Regardless, that was 27 years ago, and my love for the band has only grown since!
As noted in that other thread, I'm more than happy to share my live collection with others (my audio list is HERE, with a list of videos forthcoming), so if I can lend a hand filling in the holes in anyone's collections, send me a message and we can work something out, I'm sure
Also, a gallery of my own personal photos from the amazing 2016-05-28 Ridgefield, WA show is HERE if anyone wants to check them out. (With a sample below, obviously!)
Thanks, all! I look forward to being part of the community!
