Just to understand a bit better. Are you getting a stable wi-fi connection? That's to say, regardless of internet connection, as they're 2 different things. Is it the same symptom across all your devices? I had an issue a while back with one of my phones crashing the wi-fi.

I had contemplated it being my phone but why is it just doing this now? I googled this and people were saying phones are on 2.4 ghz like routers and to counteract it you need a dual router. But before I spend $90 on a dual Netgear router I would like to know if that is truly it.
Before you do that see what wi-fi standard it's using. You should be able to get into the config menus to see that in the settings. Just type 192.168.1.1 into your browser address bar to get into the router & user & PW are usually something like admin for both (unless your isp has locked you out.) If the standard is 802.11n, change it to 802.11g. It'll slow it down but not really enough that you'll notice. That put an end to my phone crashing mine. The 2.4gHz band is fine & should be compatible with all your wifi devices really. Some routers will have a dual band ability to include 5 gHz, but you lose a bit of range in that band. 2.4 should work fine
