Damn forgot about this one.........only 3 encores .....disgraceful........LOL
Yeah, I was wondering if that was down to the crowd issues mentioned near the start of the thread, but having seen photos of the setlist, it was planned that way. Seems the venue was quite restricted too. As salleygarden pointed out, the projection rig wasn't part of the stage setup. That would have meant no hooning great candle for It Will Never Be The Same.
Hello all! I didn't have internet capability in Vegas (I'm primitive). Just got home late last night. Well, what can I say? The show was totally amazing. I'm in recovery mode today. Even though it had slightly shorter set & didn't have the full stage set up it was all I wanted for my first Cure show & more. I almost had a heart attack when they opened with the first 3 songs from Disintegration. Had a feeling it was going to be a good night & indeed it was. Robert was very engaged, talked a bit & danced a lot(!). Reeves is still one of my fave guitar players & as far as I'm concerned if you can't have Porl, you can't do much better. He added a lot. I was seated 1st row of the balcony on his side of the stage. The set was fun at times & beyond intense at others. Some of the highlights for me were the 3 song opening, A Forest, Burn, Never Enough (scorching!) & of course Disintegration. I've read some negative things on here about recent performances of Disintegration. I think that's because you really need the visual of Robert performing. At least at this show it was riveting. & Reeves' contribution was stellar. Any other shows I go to by any band are just icing on the cake now. I had a health scare & almost had to cancel the trip. I gutted it out & glad I did for sure. Paying the piper now. If I can get right & some logistics can be dealt with, I might go to Ridgefield with my friend & her teenage daughters next Saturday. We shall see as its about a 2.5 hour drive each way. The concept has been floated to positive reception. Robert said somthing about they would be back to Vegas. Hopefully that means they are going to extend the tour with maybe another US run at the last part? I think he is enjoying this lineup & tour thus far. Sure seemed that way. I missed Twilight Sad but could hear them. They sounded pretty good but didn't play long. I was in the tshirt line for well over an hour as it was a pretty disorganized mess. Worth the effort though. Took care of myself, my friend & her kids & my goddaughter. They had a good variety & the prices were very reasonable for a major band ($25 rather than the $40 a lot of big band charge). I look forward to following the rest of the tour here. Heading to check & see if any tapes up yet for Vegas, haha.
I just returned from Vegas after seeing The Cure for the very first time. Overall, the experience was wonderful; however, the venue certainly could have had a few things in place in order for the day to run smoothly/more efficiently.
Being one of the first people arriving, 8 am, I was confident I'd have a prime viewing spot, but again due to the lack of security, I didn't find myself quite where I wanted, which was in the front row. However, I did however find myself planted in front of Roger though and Simon made several appearances, which was fantastic, but ugh, again some sort of security should have been in place to lessen some of the stress\****ty attitudes witnessed that night. There were a few physical confrontations!
Thanks to all the fantastic ladies I had the pleasure of meeting that night, and guess what...I have every intention of heading to see them once more time on this tour, as my hunger/desire for The Cure has grown...
I'll post a few photos shortly
The tshirt line was out of control. You would think the venue would have it down at this point. On the plus side, the sound was fantastic where I was. There were line issues at the Santana show I went to Friday @ the House of Blues too. Glad you enjoyed the show. I might drive to Ridgefield WA show on Saturday. Looks like there are plenty of tickets left for small money. Having seen the band up close in Vegas, I wouldn't mind doing lawn seats for the 2nd show. I'm sure they will have the full stage setup Saturday.
Oh a word about crying, I've been to quite a few gigs and seen many a hero of mine, okay namely David Bowie, and never shed a tear. However, the moment the 5 of them emerged out of the darkness and onto the stage (as I mentioned in a previous post I was standing in front of Roger, so I could see them coming onto the stage) I wept and wept and trembled. And then came Plainsong which is my ultimate favourite Cure track, I wept some more. I was just utterly flooded with emotion. Unfortunately, Simon witnessed this and smiled and smirked. I did feel embarrassed, but the girls around me assured me this is normal behaviour for a first timer at a Cure concert. Anyway, thought I'd share a few photos:
Checking out the venue a few days before the BIG day
Okay so not Cure related, the day prior to the gig, when to Red Rock Canyon and completed the "Calico Tanks" trail. Very fun, very beautiful. I did burn though.
Your reward for completing the trek: a great view of the Las Vegas Strip
Yay! Glad it all turned out okay in the end, despite the problems. It's time security people realised they are there to help/ protect people & not throw their weight about. Hoping you get to catch the band again while there's still time
Seriously considering both Miami shows. Will hopefully be able to firm up these plans this week.

Cool. Hope you don't mind, but I've moved these into the Vegas thread. The photos are excellent & a lot more folks will see them here
