At last night's show, I could not see if he was crying/sweating...but he very clearly and deliberately wiped his cheek after the song. Sure gives the impression of tears (shrug).
Crying, I think. Seems the majority think its about Bowie. I'm not so sure. The first time I saw it, my mind went straight to the Paris attacks actually (going to a gig will never be the same). I think family is also a strong contender.
The beauty of a Robert Smith song it could be for multiple people.
I agree... I've seen a lot of interpretations about Cure songs, and they all fitted in some ways! That's another thing I love about Robert's songwriting skills And he's definitely crying... I've seen him wiping his cheeks like that a couple of times since the song was introduced. I'm afraid we'll never know who/what he is thinking about though... the only thing I know is that I don't like to see him crying
I'm going off the Chula Vista show & got "And we laughed about last year"
the last one is "We won't do it all the same"
But he's swapping the order of some lines from show to show I think This line "The songs we sang, the games we played" Is reversed on the Chula Vista show
I have been searching feverishly for some sort of comments from any member of The Cure about this song. I have found nothing.
Welcome to the forum amyc! I don't think they want to talk about it in the press because the lyrics are so personal to Robert and the lyrics are pretty unveiled in its meaning of loss and love. But I understand your curiosity.
