For sure he knows but he's not allowed to say. All official statements have to come from Robert via interviews or SHOUTY ALL CAPS POSTS ON THE OFFICIAL SITE. It's been that way for ages now.
Then he should have said "For a reason I'm not allowed to say..."
Maybe he did & it got a bit lost in the French translation. Besides, once you say something like that, you only just end up getting badgered until you spill the beans as it implies you know full well why. Robert wants to have the control & I think the others are quite happy to let him field all the tricky questions. Heck, I would
So clearly the song wasn't originally about his mum's passing, but perhaps made the tour as it was a poignant reflection of his feeling after his mum died. It's clearly a very personal song whatever the original intent
Without Robert doing any interviews this past tour, we are only left to wonder where, when and why the song is around.
I still personally feel that it is a lot better than everything on 4:13 put together. And, I agree with the previous comment about the guitar not sounding like Pearl's... I'm just still not convinced it is from 2008...
Can we steal Robert's words and see if there is a date on the original? Lol....

Well, the guitar won't sound like Pearls as it's not The Cure The "real" studio version's probably drowned in wah wah pedal

guedzilla, no, I didn't miss that. I just think if Pearl was originally on the guitar when it was written, that Reeves... lets just say that Reeves' style is totally different than Pearl's... it doesn't sound like a Pearl written guitar part to me... that's all.

I meant in the live version!!
Ahah! Well if it was Pearl playing it live, it would have been utterly obliterated with wah wah. A veritable "Wah Wah Land" if you like Thankfully Reeves knows when to step back a wee bit.

Oh ok. Well, I don't know... That part that's quickly picked could've been Pearl's... It's a bit in the style of The Hungry Ghost's solo. But Reeves probably did rework everything.
At last night's show, I could not see if he was crying/sweating...but he very clearly and deliberately wiped his cheek after the song. Sure gives the impression of tears (shrug).
And his turning away at the end at some performances? The expression on his face and the breaking of his voice? The poor guy. I don´t believe he was just sweating!
