I found out that you can't rely on streaming. Some very cool videos or other media files suddenly disappear from the internet. Like The Cure's 1981 Star Club performance of Primary (gone from YouTube)... So for collectors it's still the safest to make sure you get the files on your HD
My question is:
Which tool do you use for downloading videos from YouTube? I saw somewhere YouTube Downloader HD being recommended... Any experiences, also with tools for Mac?
I honestly wouldn't bother going to the trouble. Most of the "HD" stuff is certainly NOT HD (never believe a VHS transfer is HD. It isn't possible.) As for the audio, the codecs yt uses are plain dreadful lossy cr@p. It serves as a decent enough place to get an idea of what a song is like, but why anyone would keep the media files is quite baffling. Don't forget that free downloader plugins are usually funded by ads too. So even more reason to avoid them
There is a lot of excellent quality videos of shows that have never seen the light of day elsewhere. Of course, they are lossy but until a better source shows up, it is the best alternative.
