Ok first of all there HAS to be minor chords in there. I suspect an Em or Bm or both. Not just A C D. So are you just talking about the A C D chords themselves? Second of all they don't sound like normal A C D chords. They sound suspended ( aka the third is omitted). Third do you mean the chord on the acoustic or the riff on the electric? Just asking.
No no no, I was talking in non-musical terms, so non-musicians could understand. So I named the 4 phrases of the main guitar riff A B C D (maybe I should've gone with 1 2 3 4).
Musically speaking, the main guitar riff goes (from memory, might have some mistakes):
1.E D / 2.A F# / 3.G E / 4.B D
Those are single notes played, on electric guitar, not the acoustic guitar chords.
But on that first time he sings it, he plays
1.E D / 2.G E / 3.G E / 4.B D
I play this as a mistake sometimes because the bassline is a linear step up motion (E F# G A I think), so you end up thinking about the guitar line going linearly up too, but it goes up 1 - 2 then down 2 - 3 then up again 3 - 4.
You are totally correct Guedzilla! Yes @1:20 he plays G E twice.
I can't read music either and i understand what you mean. I didn't notice anything during FTEOTDGS, though. But i have always thought that the very very end was kind of 'wrong',
Even if it's more complicated than that obviously, you could play 4 chords (say A B C D, whatever they really are) during the line) "i wish i could just stop, i know another moment will break my heart" (then notes 'descending', then again the 4 chords during the line) "too many tears, too many times, too many years i've cried for you" (then notes descending, then again the 4 chords during the line) "it's always the same, wake up in the rain, head in pain" (notes descending during the line) "hung in shame" (and 'strangely' froim there the song ends on a tune (say Eminor or whatever) that has nothing to do with the previous chords of the song "same old game" line going to "love in vain, and miles and miles and miles and miles away from home again"
I never got why. I have always thought the guitar noise during the last few seconds should have 'twisted' back into a A.
During the live set, i really think it's a mistake when Smith plays some 'extra' chords with his guitar when the song is supposed to be finished at the end of just like heaven, in between days, friday, and some other song. Instead of having a normal 'sharp' end to the song which would leave space to a big cheer from the crowd, some people applause at the end of the song, some other during the extra chords, some when these are over... I feel that it adds nothing to the song, on the contrary it ruins it by confusing the audience in a way, and avoiding the big frank round of applause. Shame.
Also the end of a forest is AA BB CC DD AAAAAaaaaaaa..... and live Gallup plays AA BB CCCCCCCccccccc..... that too i find it stange.
In Rome on the 4Tour Bob picked up the wrong acoustic for The Boy I Never Knew & had to hastily change it after the first verse. It was tuned totally differently. But the most awkward muff up I've heard was the first Reflections night in Sydney. All Cats Are Grey is coming to its massively atmospheric ending with that solo keyboard piece. Lol guesting & does really well until the very last note. Ouch!
