"10:15 Saturday Night was written at the table in our kitchen. Watching the tap dripping, feeling utterly morose, drinking my dad's homemade beer...my evening had fallen apart, and i was back at home feeling very sorry for myself!"
"it's always the same" should be included at the end of the lyrics... I wonder what led Simon to play Dempsey's bass solo at the end of the song in these last couple of years...
There's a story no Simon's solo at the end of the song. I mean, he changed the tune and kept it like this for I don't know how long. Then he shortened it, then suddenly, at some gigs, he played Dempsey's original and I think he finally opted for the shortest version.

10.15 10.15 Saturday night Saturday night And the tap drips And the tap drips Under the strip light Under the strip light And I'm sitting And I'm sitting In the kitchen sink In the kitchen sink And the tap drips And the tap drips Drip drip drip drip drip drip drip drip Drip drip drip drip drip drip drip drip
It's also very reminiscent of the opening of Dodie Smith's novel 'I Capture the Castle ' , in which the main character is also sitting in a kitchen sink on a Saturday night. This author also wrote '101 Dalmatians ' . I wouldn't be surprised if Robert had read it.
I think this is a song only an 18(ish)-year-old could write. So utterly consumed by that angsty angst angst and wanting to know where the object of his affection is. There is nothing else. The feeling that you're the only person alone by yourself on a Saturday night while everybody else must be out having the most fabulous time in the world.
An adult would start thinking about the need to do the dishes or going to bed early.
