Tomorrow we go to an 80th b-day party for my FIL, who threw a knife at me a decade ago in front of about three other people. I have to act like I don't still have feelings about that.
I have read this three times to make sure I was reading it correctly.
Make it four times on my side ! That's pretty unusual (well... I hope so). Deserves at least a short story, or a novel... As a strange coïncidence, Radiohead's Knives Out is playing in the background, now. & Good luck, good spirits for tomorrow !

Thanks, alone2022, I appreciate that. It’ll be fine. And it was only a crappy steak knife. A kitchen temper tantrum on his part.
But if my younger bro-in-law addresses me as “Young Lady” (as in, “Hello, young lady!”) after I asked him not to do that last time, I may punch someone.
Right now, I'm so happy I could cry, if I could cry. Just heard spawn has passed the initial review for the school we are hoping they get into and has been invited in for a full day interview. I am cautiously optimistic this mind-fark of a school year will soon be in the rearview mirror... Please goddess.

Wishing you the best of lucks with this, young lady

That is excellent news. Really chuffed for all of you.

I feel like I'm trying hard not to get my hopes up, but am failing at that...
The visit Mr. K and I made to the school our child is applying to for the fall was so amazing on Thursday. It is everything we could want for them. They will spend the whole day there on Tuesday in classes to see if it's a good fit.
It was one of those instances where the universe seems to be sending you STRONG messages this was meant to be. In the lobby of the school when we arrived for the tour we ran into a neighbor mom from our block. Her child, whom our child has played with a couple of times, attends the school (with only 72 kids K-12 grade in the school in a city of 8+ million people, what are the odds?). Then, they brought in some of the teachers to talk to the parents on the tour, and who should appear but the father of one of our child's preschool/early elementary school friends who teaches theater and independent study. So strange and wonderful.
The school doesn't stick hard and fast to clustering kids by grade (i.e., if kids are progressing more quickly they can be combined with older students for certain subjects). They gave the example of two of their high-schoolers who had blown through ALL of the advanced physics classes they offer, so they asked the kids what they wanted to explore and started teaching them astronomy. All kids in grades 6-12 complete and independent study project each year based on their interests. They have a music room with a recoding booth and an amazing art room with all sort of power tools and a 3-D printer.
The head of the school was very candid in saying that 100% of the students there successfully sue the school district for tuition b/c there is NO school program in NYC for twice exceptional kids. Nothing, nada.
If this doesn't happen for spawn, I can't lie, I will be crushed. If it does happen, I can't imagine how much better things will be for us all. Please send us good vibes.

I'm still keeping all digits crossed this all works out

Keeping my fingers crossed! Plus eight paws!
That all sounds brilliant and looks like a perfect place for your son.
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.
Spawn spent the day yesterday at the school we'd like them to be able to attend next year as part of the interview process. When Mr. and I came at the end of the day to speak to the admissions head and pick up spawn, we had teachers they'd spent time with coming by to tell us how much they loved having him, with one saying, "I hope to see you in the fall!" to spawn in front of Mr. Admissions Head.
I am trying, trying not to get my hopes up because of the rejection we had from a school in December. It's so hard because everything seems to point to them really liking spawn. I cannot stand the waiting, nor do I feel I could bear having them rejected. Put me out of my misery, already.
