Today I feel fortunate to have a day where I can both catch up on administrative stuff and have some time to relax.
It's been pretty hectic here. Our son is not doing well and we are going to have to find a placement for him in a special school that can meet his needs of both having autism and being academically "gifted" (I hate that term, but don't know what else to use). There is no place for him in the public schools that can provide what he needs, challenging academics and intensive social/emotional help. We have received a tentative placement from the school system in a program where the student to teacher ratio is 12:1, but it's for autistic students who are very low functioning (non-verbal or limited verbal communication and needing help with basic academics). We have to go through a whole process of touring the school and then if we reject it, there is one more possible option before we just have to pull him out of public education and pay for private school to the tune of something like $60k/year.
In the middle of all this, I'm trying to enroll him to receive services from the Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities, which is a lot of red tape. It's kind of like adjusting to a whole, new reality: we have a son with a disability. All those years of seeking answers from doctors since he was 10 months old and we realized something wasn't quite right. It's taken almost 9 years to get this answer.
Suffice to say, this is why I haven't been on here much (along with feeling sad I have no Cure shows to look forward to). I am remaining positive and laser-focused on being an advocate for our son. It's almost Halloween, so I'm energized by that.
Anxiously anticipating the first time our spawn will be away for the night at a sleepover! Mr. and I will go out for sushi and maybe a movie. We can do whatever we want, even shag on the living room floor if we like!
A bit tired. The oldest daughter celebrated her 18 yrs b-day yesterday for her friends, so friday and saturday I have been cooking vegan food for 22 persons. That was not as big a deal as managing to make room for them all in my tiny livingroom. That was the recent weekend we are about to leave in a couple of hours
Last weekend we had a funeral for my beloved sister-in-law, whom passed away the weekend before last weekend.
So besides my two jobs I have been a bit busy with family stuff.
Looking forward to the show with you know who in a couple of weeks in CPH, and lookng forward to a little trip to Berlin after the show.
