The Videolan VLC player will play FLACs as is:

The FLAC front-end is a sourceforge freeware program that will let you decode FLACs into WAV:

It'll play more or less anything you chuck at it. Foobar is another one to try out VLC is brilliant, but my one grumble is that it doesn't appear to offer gapless playback

Personally, I use PotPlayer 64Bit but, Media Player Classic is probably the most user friendly media player on the planet. PotPlayer lets me customise - add different skins and toolbars etc which is why I use it. Media Player Classic is very lightweight, open source, plays everything. It does out perform VLC, we ran a test on a private site early this year, MPC just beat VLC - VLC struggled to play some formats, Transport Stream for instance, MPC played everything flawlessly.
