someone recently suggested in a post comment to me in the sharing section that maybe this site could/should divide the sharing sections into two categories one for Audio .FLAC and one for Audio .mp3, and possibly a third for Video files???

I for one would be totally down for/with that concept into reality

I am doing my best to fill holes/gaps in the dates/posting in the sharing and to include as much information as I can with what I have to work with [which is a lot of .mp3 files with little or no Lineage/generation/Taper/Track List/Version info] and listing track names/number of tracks to narrow down which version it is from info on cureconcerts.de

I never convert[ed] audio files in my collection [and don't get/understand anyone who does that] and fortunately [or unfortunately] I have obtained a lot of stuff from guitars101 and House of Bootlegs over the years that was .mp3 sketchy until I got an account with DIME and got the REAL DEAL in .FLAC and then my unfortunate discovery of c*r*f*r*l* 3 months ago wasting my time downloading 'alleged' FAKE FLAC [which I will NEVER share here!]
unfortunately I am finding a lot of stuff I got from DIME in REAL .FLAC already posted here

if I had my way ideally ALL my Cure audio files would be AUD , FM Broadcast, and/or SBD Master file 1st generation .FLAC
altho' I am NOT a FLAC snob per say when I started collecting The Cure [and other bands] concerts 10 years ago I grabbed everything I could with the hopes/intentions someday if it was .mp3 I would eventually get another version/upgrade in .FLAC and I am still striving to do that in my searches currently and will still be doing it when I get old[er]

I always felt/feel that having a show in .mp3 is better than no show at all at least until a better version comes my way

but yeah totally making two categories/sections for .mp3 and .FLAC on here is an excellent idea so for those who don't like .mp3 can ignore it instead of having it mixed in with the REAL deal .FLAC good stuff

I will allow our admin to respond to this in detail but as for myself, the titles of the concerts are CLEARLY labeled as such [FLAC] [MP3] [OGG] [WAV] [DVD] etc... and that is how they will remain for now. It would be quite an undertaking to move all of the threads. We welcome MP3s. Nobody ever said you could not upload MP3s. I live in the US an I CANNOT play FLAC files in my car or on my mobile phone. Please do not take some negative comments and decide the entire sharing section has to be changed.

Anyway, as just an ordinary user I think the system is fine as it is, even private sites dedicated to music have WAV, FLAC and MP3 files together. As long as the format is in the title there should be no problem.

Since I'm a Mac user, I have to convert all my FLAC files to M4A and i'm not sure how that works with the rest of you FLAC people. If I were to share M4A's (Apple lossless) can you guys use them or no?

Not really.
Any tampering with the original files basically makes them a different file set & so harder to help seed even when someone has the same version.
I'm also a Mac user & have no trouble with flac, shn, wav, aiff, alac etc.
The only reason I'd ever convert to alac would be if I was dropping a set on my iProd.
Best to share the original files, so that they are identifiable via a checksum or finger print file
