wren Big Daddy is a Cichlosoma Frontosa. He is a Tanganyikan Cichlid. Not the most vicious but close. The Flower Horn, Red Devil and Jack Dempsey are probably in the top five of nasty with the Green and Red Terrors following close behind. You are probably thinking why would anyone try to keep them then? Because they are the most beautiful of all of the fresh water fish. People actually think Big D is a saltwater fish but he is not. The top picture is a pleco. He and his friend and Big D are the only ones left in the tank because Bid D killed everyone else. Plecos are tough though. They have a sort of armor on them that he can't get through. That is the only reason he hasn't killed them. So yes take pics and post them and we will ID them for you.
Thank you - it's funny you say that as I saw Big Daddy and thought he looked like a marine fish - it's the shape and the lips!! I would sell my granny for a marine aquarium but read up on it a couple of years ago and it is not for the beginner - understatement!! Maybe if I make a go of the tropical set-up I could maybe dream of getting my own lionfish one day - I love them - what could possibly go wrong with someone as accident-prone as me, caring for a deadly fish???

(I'll write more later coz I have to go do my daily cycling and then get ready for work, but...)
I'm going to a car show at the end of March at the NEC. I'm planning on driving up on the Saturday (28th?) and staying overnight in a hotel, so if you're south of Brum, I am MORE than happy to drop in on the Saturday and give you a hand with anything, answer questions, drink all your tea, eat all the biscuits, etc.
Also, my brother and Dad live in Milton Keynes, so if you're ever coming that way on a weekend - I'm usually there once a fortnight - I'd be happy to meet up and have a natter while dragging you round all the fish shops!!
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
Kuhli Loaches are my absolute favourite fish - and I appear to have a black one!! I've NEVER seen that before: a melanistic colour morph Kuhli!! Even my fish are flippin' Goth!!

Millhouse went to the vet today after last week's "omergad, here's the box, better hide behind a bookshelf" routine.
He had a swollen gum on his right side. Prolly from munching on a bone he found in someone's rubbish. He had anti-inflamtories then to try to reduce the swelling. It's gone down, but it looks like he might have a tumour-type growth on his gum. The meds are still working, but the vet has told me if it starts to get worse within one or two weeks, then I have to seriously think about having him put to sleep. Naturally, at the moment, I am a bit ...well, actually really devastated about this. He has been my friend for many years & has had it tough for the last five with all his immune system issues. Really not dealing too well with this news & hoping he shows signs of recovery.
Thanks all. I hope it's something that'll recede, like an abscess too. He seems to be eating normally (better than me even) & he's happy to go out & play in the garden/ street/ woodpiles etc. Will be monitoring him over the next couple of weeks.
Esme is coming round to the idea of having a fish tank. I have tried to stop her jumping on it, but, like she says - 'If it's not for sits, why's it made of warm?'
