Glad that most of you look at this as a good setlist for a Cure show. To be honest, for me, it looks like the setlist of an teenage Cure cover band…(Hmm, this could be considered as a compliment.) 10 years ago, the fans would have been quite annoyed with that, even on a festival… Do we really have to find everything The Cure does fantastic just because that's The Cure ? I'm still a Cure freak, but I know they can provide much more than this, and they start to look like the Rolling stones, playing their old hits to please the most… Not really Robert's definition of what the band was supposed to be ! (or he would have named his band The Placebo instead…) Does anyone really wants to talk about the supposed festival crowd again ? Does anyone still listen to any festival show from 1990, 2002 or 2004? Did people get bored then ? Let's be serious, we can expect much more from THIS band, and I hope we'll get it soon before it's too late. I've been following The Cure for enough time to know that they can provide something more intense and emotional than what they gave us these two last years and keep fingers crossed… Dear Robert, if you even read this, get back to your roots, don't try to please the most and give the fans the shows they deserve...
Well, I would like to believe that they really play more but it seems discouraging to look ahead...so many Robert's promises...many projects announced but nothing, in more one night playing pop songs, the cards are on the table & we must believe!
At night...I hear the darkness breathe...I sense the quiet despair...Listen to the silence...At night...Someone has to be there...

Well to be honest, I actually kind of like the festival shows. When they're touring an album, the shows are very heavy with that material for better or for worse but when it's an off year, they're just playing what they want to play and have a lot more leeway with the setlist. They are also one of the few bands touring today that have such an enormous bag of hits that people there are going to want to hear. Sure we get lots and lots of Just Like Heaven and Inbetween Days but that's when we get things like Just One Kiss or the revival of Caterpillar or Stop Dead or Burn.
The RAH shows were epic in both length and song selection and everyone can agree that they were really special shows. But if they pulled that every night, it wouldn't be special and we'd all be complaining that they're not playing Man Inside My Mouth or something. As an intense Cure FAN, BottleRock and RiotFest are kind of ho-hum because we've heard those songs a million times, but for everyone else these shows were excellent because they checked off a whole lot of the boxes.
I'm saying this as someone who looked at the setlist and initially thought "meh" too, but that there are new Cure shows at all is pretty incredible.

The Hungry Ghost is something that has grown on me since I heard it performed last year.
I can't say 4:13 is a good album, but Robert has made this song his autobiographical note for how he is now. It's a great statement on The Cure in the new century.
By the way, that was the highlight of Toronto´s show.
Madbobrjs, thanks for making that trip all the way up the continent for us.
Given your blogspot concert collections, can we hope you have bootlegged this show for us?
Thanks again for attending.
Hi John, I´m so sorry to let you down, I didn´t travel to attend Toronto´s festival.
I´ve said that (the highlight of Toronto´s show was Robert´s camo shirt) just after seeing the 98% Pure Hits setlist.
I really thought the boys will drop a punkier or heavier set because of the nature of this festival, and I expected that, with the consequential letdown.
I hope in the next 2 Rio shows, the song selection be better, going towards more hardcore fan-based choices.
Thanks for feedback John.
Greetings.

As 'okay' as the setlist was, I was there - and did enjoy it.
That being said, was thinking recently (between this and the live recordings thread) - did a full recording of this show ever surface to anyone's knowledge?
(I know there's no sharing "here" (per se) - but I was more curious if anything existed in the first place).
There isn't even any recording listed in cure-concerts website so I guess that tapers are hiding for the moment. I can't imagine no one recorded it. There are tons of videos of this show on Youtube and I guess a complete show would be easy to build waiting that tapers leak their recordings.
