Nothing is normal in my life. I got a knock at the door to be told to come quick by all these children ( mad rat lady ) .
Shortly to be eaten a baby bird . Sadly been moved and handled by half the road . I explained always leave them for the parents to sort out.
Picked him up .. It didn't care. It was a case of pick up or be eaten.
So now I have a baby swift in my living room He now squarks at me ! And demands feeding by sucking my finger . Having looked up yup that's how they feed. He needs feeding at least 8 times a day and water . Usually they die of shock. Also sadly once a swift hits the ground it won't fly up it's grounded so he was stuck.
Please don't let me have to run up and down my garden teaching it to fly !
He's eating and drinking but only from me . He tells me he wants feeding and when he's had enough .
I had one of these die on me once and was only told later that if I'd have thrown it into the air it should have been able to fly off by itself - I'm not saying to do that in case it just plummets lol but if it looks healthy maybe you could try a gentle launch as long as you could catch it if it can't fly?
Longest sentence ever!
Don't talk of worlds that never were
The end is all that's ever true
He has nearly got flight feathers but his tails not formed and the rest is baby feathers . Earlier today he kept jumping onto my hands snuggling down and then going to sleep. I don't hold out much hope he's so very young and not dependent. He's now sleeping ! I've hand reared rodents and a ring neck dove . Looked after a Mallard and had a crow who was hit by a car . Sadly he used to fit and often you would have to right him . Then he'd be ok til the next fit. He sadly in the end had a massive fit and I lost him.
The best animals I ever had were Rattus Rattus the ship rat . They were exs terminated from Lundey Island so my friend with permission took some ashore .
I had 3 babies who obviously had been blood tested. I was one of the few people they tamed for . Kelpie who was jet black used to sit on my head .
The vet was stunned . She didn't like him and shot off from him. They will hang from their very long tails. Very bat like rather then rat.
Sadly I think London zoo had a few and Rentakill has a colony but they are really inbred and you can't get near them.
Mine reached old age and adopted me and trusted me.
your name...like ice into my heart...a shllow grave...a monument to the ruined age...ice in my eyes...and eyes like ice don't move...screaming at the moon...as cold as silence...and you never will say a word...this is my name...and a strange day...ever and ever and ever again......
we had a similar problem before weeks ... a bird has had in our roses a nest with young. they all fell into the thorns and threatened to die ... my wife has saved them and hides them, for the mother ... and it worked ... but we never saw them again ... I think they have survived ...

He's now taking wax worms off me . Seems pleased to see me when I comes in and shouts at me to feed him . Still sucking my fingers. He is being bird sat tomorrow night . I hope he's ok but I've got the feeding regime sussed and easier then yesterday phew . I must be mental.
Righty! If Hellcat here is the lass who I've been chatting to on Twitter, I've already warned her that swifts are buggers to hand-rear, will die at the drop of a hat from shock and really, need specialist carers.
That said, she's done a bit of research and got the little chap to feed - which is the biggest battle.
The advice I've given is that if she has ANY concerns, she's to contact the nearest wildlife rescue centre for advice. Not the RSPCA, they're bloody useless!! Don't ever be afraid or too proud to ask for help and advice: it's an animal's life at stake here!
I don't know what experience Hellcat has with hand-rearing birds (she might have loads!), but speaking generally, young wild creatures should NEVER be hand-reared by anyone BUT a wildlife specialist. Why? It's a WILD animal, not a pet. It has wild instincts and wild habits. It's cute while it's little, the fun starts when it reaches sexual maturity and starts behaving like a REAL wild creature! And if you release a tamed young fox, fawn or bird into the wild, it will die very quickly because it will see humans as friends. It will be hit by a car, tortured by chavs, ostracised by it's own kind and so on.
Don't try and be a hero with wild animals, get specialist help - and do it FAST!!! Inexperience (no matter how well-meaning) will do the creature no favours - and you may be breaking the law...
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
