I've been a fan of the Cure since back during the days of Disintegration, but filed away my 2 cd's somewhere around the time I graduated. One day a few months ago I was playing around on youtube when I saw a link to the 2008 Paris Bercy show, and suddenly I can't stop listening to them! I've bought Wish, KMKMKM, Standing on a Beach, Disintegration Deluxe, Wild Mood Swings, and have downloaded a TON of boots from different sites that share live concert recordings. I've driven my wife and 2 boys nuts listening to nothing but Cure for 4 months now. My wife would rather listen to salsa and merengue, so I'm glad I found this site, as it's fun reading all that you guys say about this excellent band.
Interestingly enough, to counterbalance the serious sound of so many of the Cure's recordings, I've also gotten into another group recently that is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of Robert Smith & co.: Great Big Sea. That stuff is enough to make anyone just giddy! Makes the ambient mood in my house quite odd sometimes. It goes from somber and brooding to bouncy-bouncy-happy music from one moment to the next!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I also just got the Trilogy DVDs a few days ago, which has been pretty awesome. That, of course, has allowed me to hear Pornography, live though it may be. (I usually prefer live music over studio though, as it feels somehow more authentic, more heartfelt. I've got Paris 2008 playing right now as I type. This show has an audience that goes a long way in making it absolutely outstanding, as well. We don't get such participation as this in my country! Les francaises LOVE The Cure, and it really shows. I mean, check out how they sing the synthesizer's notes in "Play for Today!" Intense! If you haven't heard it yet, go check it out. It's at the 1:07:00 mark.)
Although I don't have any of their early-to-mid-80s CDs as of yet, I've heard a lot of the songs through the different boots I've picked up: BBC Sessions 1979-85 and a 2-CD Unreleased Demos, as well as several shows from 1979, 1981 and 1985. Other than the famous tracks, such as "A Forest" and "Primary," I really dig "A Baby Screams," "Seventeen Seconds," and "Push."
