Sorry to do a double-post, but the next show is 1996 06 08 Seinäjok. I have no idea where that is, but I wanted to say something about this tour.
On the 1996 tour, each show pretty much opens with Want. Not one of my favorite tracks, but something that has a permanent place on the "modern" Cure concert setlist. Usually I don't like hearing it as part of a show.
But something is different on this tour, it's setting the tone of the Wild Mood Swings show. Want starts things off, tells you the mood of the show. And the WMS tracks make more sense as I listen to them without skipping past them. They are goofy, they are "post-top 40" tracks, which is what Robert always says he wants with every album. He doesn't want radio hits. The 1996 tour kind of succeeds in spite of itself.
With a few eighties hits spinkled into the mix, it's a pretty neat tour. This 1996-06-08 - Seinaejoki show is about 9 concerts into the tour for me (the setlists are out of chronological order). I find myself not skipping tracks but warning to popping through the entire show. And that's what the listening tour is all about, right. Onward!
Have a great weekend, everyone. Looking forward to getting my Mixed Up deluxe edition in a matter of weeks. But for now, the '96 tour is hard to beat! (As Robert says for Friday I'm in Love: "So, to win you over again...")
Listening to something really goofy with horns called "Gone" from the 1996 07 31 Portland show. I thought it was going to be Yesterday's Gone from Reeves Gabrels, but that's in the future, of course.
Gone sounds like some horrible variation of "The 13th", which hasn't gotten into the 1996 setlist yet.
We've got some frisky keyboard on a few tracks here, with extended intros on Inbetween Days and Let's Go to Bed. Earlier in the show the audience got If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, a rare treat followed by Piggy in the Mirror. (Robert apologizes to the audience in introducing the latter song, "I don't know what I'm talking about!")
But you don't need me blathering on about this fine show, someone has helpfully put up the audio on youtube:
New York audiences often get the best shows. Whether it's the Grateful Dead or The Cure, you're in for a treat. The Cure - 1996 09 17 - New York featured such delights as The Figurehead, Plainsong, and If Only Tonight We Could Sleep. And if that wasn't worth bragging about, they got a one-two punch of A Forest and Faith to close the show. How nice for them.
But that pales in comparison to next month's show 1996 10 25 Torino. There are moments that mankind remembers forever, such as the Moon Landing, the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul the Second, and a live performance of The 13th. What, er, lucky Torino fans!
Getting through a spectacular version of A Forest right now from 24.11.1996 Kiel - Ostseehalle (Germany). What a fun show! The band plays a lot of kooky stuff like Funeral Party, Like Cockatoos, Subway Song, and The Figurehead.
If they had a time machine, this would be a treat to visit...
That was a really fun tour. And I agree about this particular show - sounds amazing! Save
I'm so happy for the London fans that are getting live Cure shows in 2018. Thanks to the wonders of the modern age, those of us around the world can vicariously share in the excitement, although youtube recordings are but a faded echo of the live experience.
i'm plowing through the 1996 WMS shows. For some reason, I look forward to hearing Want each time as the typical '96 show opener, followed by Club America. Even Gone is growing on me as fun dance number. Currently listening to 1996-07-30 Hult Center Symphony Hall, Eugene, USA (2nd source), I have two sources for this one as the name suggests (the other was a FLAC to start with).
Enjoying 1996-10-14 Orleans Le Zenith France F.S. DAT0 [FLAC] right now. A real nice recording.
Can this really be 22 years ago? We are so old!
Some intense pleasures in this show, A Night Like This, Push, The Figurehead, and Forever.

My last "Car CD Cure Collection" is five years old. I came up with 9 CD-Rs of Cure songs and albums that I wanted to listen to while driving.
Nowadays I know most people simply listen to a handful of single tracks on their cell phones. But I like to compile collections of CD-Rs that are 700 megabytes of MP3 files and folders. I organize them by whim or usually by chronology.
It was pretty easy to identify what I liked about The Cure's career. 9.8 Gigabytes of music. This is most of their official album catalogue ripped at 320kbs from my Deluxe Edition CDs purchased over the years. Of course, last month's release of Mixed Up Deluxe was the incentive to make a new collection.
Then I added in some oddities, like a Strings version of Siamese Twins that they made a video out of with some ballet dancers.
There's a live version of Why Can't I Be You? that features a medley that steve identified as a favorite of his. Was that the last message board? I can't remember.
The live shows that I drive around with is a short list: Werchter 1981, New York Irving Plaza Halloween 1997, Bizarre 1998, Shepherd's Bush 1997, L'Olympia 1982, L'Orange 1985, and course Concert (the official vinyl Cure concert album) and Concert II (also from steve ).
Over the years, I've mellowed in attitude towards some tracks I didn't like or didn't understand at first listen. So now tracks like 'Screw' and 'Piggy in the Mirror' are in the playlist.
The irony is that my car no longer has a CD player. It broke! I use a USB port modern stereo that you just plug the USB stick into and drive with that. Still, it's the thought that counts to organize this into my personal playlist. Again and again and again and again...

Currently starting every morning with two mix CDs that I made off the 'Mixed Up' Deluxe edition.
I came up with the second disc because this remix was stuck in my head:
When this was released as part of the Greatest Hits website promotion by the band, I didn't really care for it. But now that it's an official part of the Deluxe edition, I thank TC and Benny for the 1990 remix of The Lovecats.
I wonder if TC and Benny became millionaire DJs as a result of this, living on yachts and on private jets, living the high life. Maybe not, but it sounds good!
Having heard them live now at five shows, I can say that every recording falls short of having The Cure impact your eardrums. I've heard them wearing hearing protection, and I've heard them without. Always better than a recording, which is but an echo of a shadow...
A busy weekend for me, but I'm still listening to 1996. This time it's 1996-11-05, Rennes, Salle Omnisports (France).
My wife tested positive on three pregnancy tests this weekend, so it looks like a new generation Cure fandom is on the way. I hope the songs of The Cure will continue to hold their appeal long after the artists and their original listeners are dust. Let the legacy continue...

Congrats!
Go out as much as you can until as late into the 9 months as poss! Cos you won't be going out after
Enjoyed 1996-11-26_-_Hanau_-_August_Scharttner_Halle__Germany_ and now listening to 1996-12-10 London Da Fr.
Club America is growing on me as a live show feature. Now I wish I had heard it live, myself.
I finally got my five-speaker Logitech setup attached to a computer. Bought an Arrow Direct refurbished Lenovo computer and swapped in my old hard drive with my MP3 Cure shows. Now I can lay down in my bedroom and listen to these shows as they were meant to be heard.
Currently listening to this concert on my three-speaker Logitech attached to my laptop in my computer room. My "Man cave", pretty much. Although it would be nice to have a surround setup here as well, is it really that different with these monotone live recordings? Right now I am hearing the sound from in front of me, with the bass bouncing off the lower wall. I know, limited for true audiophiles. But this is where I do my work so it's where I listen to these shows, on the limited speaker setup.
