Since I've connected my new Harman/Kardon speakers to my laptop, I seem to be getting unwanted rises and drops in volume during certain songs that I play back. It' possibly happening on all tracks but it's more obvious on ones that have especially quiet / loud changes. I only have a volume control on the speakers themselves so there's not much I can do there. I had a look a Windows settings and that really only allows for setting volumes, but not really any effects. It doesn't seem to matter if I use iTunes or winamp. I do however have Beats Audio that came with the laptop so I am thinking that this may have an effect but there aren't any obvious noise levelling settings.
If I take one example where it's very noticeable, playing Blood Brothers starts of very loud and as soon as it kicks it, the sound levels out. The same happens when I play this YouTube clip.
So I thought I'd ask, has anyone had similar issues with external speakers or software, or trouble shooting tips.
No. I have RealTek software in mine but it automatically adjusts.
I don't know if these screen shots will help but here are my settings. The first one is accessed just from the windows speaker in my tray. The second is a screen shot of my software settings in Realtek.
Thanks. My Beats Audio has similar options to yours but I certainly can't see a setting for dynamic volume. Will keep investigating but it's a bit frustrating because the actual quality of the speakers is fab.
Have you tried checking the "loudness equalisation" option in your playback settings?
Right click the speaker icon>choose playback devices>Choose the dev ice you want to tweak>click on properties
There should be an enhancements tab where you can see a list of stuff lick pitch control, EQ etc.. Check the loudness EQ option & see how that goes. That ought to sort the problem windows wise. But Beats Audio is known for random volume adjustments & there is a workaround here
It looks like it's quite an old issue, so you might want to make sure it's compatible with your version first.
Thanks steve i did not see that thread. Interestingly, if I watch this I get sound coming out of both speakers all of the time, so the Beats stuff is definitely interfering.
I used to use Media Player Classic with AC3 Filter as an add on, the AC3 Filter allows you to adjust many settings and also has a decent graphic equaliser, using the AC3 Filter vastly improved audio for me. New laptop has dts audio, verrrrry yummy.
