Never had the pleasure of staying there before, but the online reviews seem to suggest that it's fairly safe. It's about 25 mins walk from the RAH. There's also a number of other hotels scattered around that location you could check out.
Last time I took the Gatwick Express but in order to catch the Friday show I changed my flight to arrive about 5.45 pm at LUTON Airport.
Anyone experienced with connections to and from Luton?
I don't get their website yet, as far as I understand, there's a shuttle bus to Luton station and then switch to a train to (wherever in?) London.. but it could also be there's a train station right at the airport?
Millhaus, there are 2 stations in Luton. One for the town itself, and one which directly serves the airport. This is the one you want, and it's called 'Luton Airport Parkway'. There are at least 4 trains per hour from there to London. No need to worry about the bus
Thanks!
I'm wondering if I make to the hotel frist or better go directly to RAH.
What do you experienced London travelleres think..? This will be my route:
Flight arrival planned for 5h05, take the free shuttlebus to Luton Airport Parkway (approx 10 min.), then with East Midland Trains (approx 25 min) to KingsX/St.Pancras Station, walk to Tube station (already around 6 or 6:30 pm now), by a ticket (day travelcard?), take the VICTORIA LINE to Oxford Circus, change to CENTRAL LINE until Queensway, a 5 min walk to the Hotel, check in, change, walk across Hyde Park straight to RAH (10 to 15 min), collect my Standing ticket from the box office, get in, buy a beer and dive into the Cureiversum....
Do you think I would make it into the venue before 7:30 ???????

That's tough! Give me a moment to check something out.
Not sure if this helps, or confuses things. I'm not familiar with the route it's suggesting. I used this journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk Time Route details Information Maps 17:55 Bus 18:01 Luton Airport Stop: 3 Take 888 towards Luton Airport Parkway

Ok, I get it now. Basically, it's saying get off the train at West Hampstead, don't go all the way to Kings Cross St Pancras. That will save you a few minutes.

Thanks P. for your investigations! I will check. The biggest uncertainty for me is the time needed for changing the stops and the long walking distances in the tube stations... and the time to get a ticket. Maybe I can buy a day travelcard right at Luton airport, so I wouldn't need to worry when doing the hop-on-hop-off cuircut If all fails, plane is late or whatvever, when I see it would be too tight, think I could still take a cab to the hotel and then another cab to RAH (pheww, guess it'd be quite expensive but still better than missing part of the show )
The times they give for walking are normally too long. So when it says 10 minutes it's normally less, unless of course you don't know where you're going!
The route you found via West Hampsted really looks like a good alternative. At first I thought I would have to change more often than via KingsX, but I see it's both only twice and saves a few minutes Cool, thanks man!
Sure I won't know where I'm going, but the travel planner site you used gives incredibly accurate (NASA-style) directions like : "Turn right on to West End Lane, continue for 246 metres (3 minutes, 39 seconds)"
