Windows 8/8.1 is definitely the new Windows Vista, a Windows 8.1 update is on it's way, possibly followed by Windows 9. I customised Windows 8, added Start8 so I now have the normal Windows Start Menu and Search facility. Anybody not liking Windows 8 should add Start8.
I have to use Windows 7 on my laptop, but only because I couldn't get a Dell with XP.
Windows Explorer 7 was designed by drunken perverts. They arbitrarily changed dozens of rules just so you'd accidentally delete a file or entire folders. Why keep the folder highlighted where you want it when the screen will crazily scroll to the top or bottom for no reason?
I see Microsoft continues thinking of their users as parasites, why else design Windows 8 with zero customer input? I only hope when Cyberdyne systems starts building their Terminator robots, the first target is all the Windows programmers at Redmond. No one will miss them.
Windows is so adaptable, you can basically make it do what you want. Windows 7 has the "compatibility mode" which lets you run programs in "XP" mode, Windows 8 is a catastrophe though - it's like Microsoft assumed the whole world would adopt "touchscreen" technology overnight. Touchscren is fine on an Android, beyond that it's kak. I have disabled all the stupid "tiles" on my Windows 8 and it now runs fine, the forthcoming update will apparently enable Windows 8 to run using less resources and to reduce the amount of space the operating system needs.
Touchscreen is a fine feature when Windows 8 is bundled with such a device. Not so hot as an upgrade for a traditional desktop. Microsoft wanted to bluntly tell you to ditch the old setup and move into the future. I hope another company replaces them soon, they have been in business too long just by stealing other people's work.
Microsoft is also washing it's hands of Windows 8, their attitude is update to Windows 8.1 as we are not offering any more assistance with Windows 8. Microsoft are like children, they have what they think are great ideas then act on them, having desktop PC's and laptops reliant on touchscreen technology negates the point of buying a desktop PC or a laptop. Personally, I think tablets are horrendous, they are just laptops without a keyboard but less powerful, now tablets are sold with a clip on keyboard, turning them into ......... laptops.
