This is The Cure playing behind the strings, I think...
Back to 1987 or so, a friend of mine went to a cinema to see what would become a french cult-movie and, playing before the film was a short movie featuring "All cats are grey" with strings.
If I remember well, The Cure were seen in the movie !
On the version linked, the backing track is played the way the band played it in late 1980, with different bass line.
If this was a fake, I bet it would be played more the LP way...
