I hope so. I dug this record out the other day and was really surprised how good these songs are.
Good half of the album is worth being played live. It's unfair that it's remembered only by two (not the best at all) singles.
It's always a tricky game. At this level, they've accrued a certain amount of "hits" that need to be played at almost every show. They've also got what? 18 full albums at this point? The quality is such that fans even want the b-sides to be played. Then you get to the point where instead of touring regularly, the band only does a handful of festivals that tend to be 'hits affairs' during which they have to cover their entire repetoir and while loads of songs on The Cure are great and we want them to be played live, I'm pretty sure at the end of the day, most of the people in the crowd want to hear Just Like Heaven rather than Never or something.
As a performer, the hardest thing in the world is letting songs slip away from the setlist as time goes on and more albums come out but it is what it is.
I think the album's savagely underrated. It has so much of the "old" The Cure in it if you listen to the arrangements. There is some real darkness & discomfort in a lot of the songs & to see it get a live outing would be a treat for sure.
So you are all saying I should listen to it again and not put it last in my Cure albums list? Don't get me wrong (I heard that song on the radio today,,,.haha I digress) I like The Cure album but it's last in my list and I do not think I sat through the entire album more than 5 times since it came out.
Yeah, listen to it again. It's not a great start to the album which is why it puts so many people off I reckon

Agreed, I can't bear Lost, physically can't listen to it! Labyrinth is a great song though. I do like a lot of that album. Alt End is my favourite on there by a mile.

Yeah, these two are probably my favorites too. Labyrinth in particular reminds me a lot of the weirder middle-eastern flavored stuff off of KMKMKM such as "Like Cockatoos" or "If Only Tonight..."
The album's really packed with nostalgia really. Anniversary has very subtle touches of Pronography era The Cure with an underlying Faith era drum line TG&B has guitar riffs that would almost be directly improvised from Pictures of You or Lovesong Promise has the same psychedelic wah wah guitar feel as you can find on The Kiss
It's not always immediately obvious, but there are real echoes of the past all through the album.
I like it MUCH MUCH better than the nightmare album and WMS. I just think, they released the wrong songs as singles. I just cannot listen to "The end of the world" and "IDKWGO", both songs make me cringe. But I love "Anniversary" and "Labyrinth". "Going nowhere" is great as well.
I'm afraid i'm really not a fan of this album at all, I pretty much never listen to WMS,4:13 or The self titled, although I have recently tried to listen to them again and Alt End is great and Anniversary is growing on me. I always end up back listen to the older albums, can't help myself!!!
For me actually the self titled album is exactly what it's title is... THE CURE Mixed music / words from the past of the band ,every song reminds me of an older era of the band. For example : 'Taking Off' sounds like Just Like Heaven pt2. Anniversary could have been taken from 'FAiTH' album, 'Labyrinth' reminds me of A Short Term Effect, 'Going Nowhere' could have been a b'side of Disintegration-era... alt.end reminds me of a 2000+ version of At Night and so goes on... But for some reason i feel like this one is The Cure's weakest moment (ouh yes...i do love W.M.S. and 4:13 has it's good moments as well)
p.s. :But then again you can blame my taste or my way of thinking...
