I saw this in my google alerts the other day. I'm glad I'm not the only person to pick up on it. I get why it's done. The way people listen to music nowadays varies between absolutely dreadful quality spotify streams to audiophile CD/ vinyl with the former currently being the most "convenient" mainly because of mobile devices. The dynamic compression sort of compensates for the low quality streams by making the whole thing a bit louder. Sometimes a lot louder. Thing is, there's no need. Every listening device has a volume control as far as I know & spotify will never make an absolutely amazing master sound great. But if you feed it a cr@ppier one, it'll make it sound cr@ppier. It's the age old GIGO principle. It's been happening for ages now. All the deluxe reissues had the same issues. With the possible exception of Wish which seemed to have had a lot of care taken over it. But Dressing Up on The Top remaster is actually louder than It's Over. You may not notice it at first but you'll get fatigued quite quickly.
"The audio was remastered by Robert Smith and Miles Showell at Abbey Road to sound punchier and more detailed than the original release."
Why is a more compressed mix "more detailed"? Not an expert in this kind of things, but I would expect it to be less detailed and nuanced?
This was exactly my thought. I'm no audiophile, but it seems counterintuitive.
Let me be frank: At a certain point, all this audiophile technical carp doesn't mean anything at the consumer vs professional level. I have a difficult time believing anybody who is a hobbyist can actually tell that much of a difference. It's kind of like driving a giant truck... A lot of ego stroking and stoking.
Yes, I agree. I cannot say anything bad about the audio quality of the Paris-Reissue. Actually I like it. It may be I would hear the difference in direct comparison. Steve is probably facepalming right now.

If there was a hype sticker that read 'Remastered for suckers' would you have bought it? 🤔
The music business is selling us an inferior, damaged product and most ppl do not care bc they don't listen to music - they put it on.
Support labels with integrity and return faulty products.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been a Class Action suit in the USA over this. They can litigate almost anything.
As Regurgitator said in Track 1: "I'm just a sucker like you".. I DEF would have bought it with that sort of "ironic, tongue in cheek" slap in the face sticker on there. The reality is that a lot of us buy ALL their releases regardless of the quality or perceived quality - marbled Entreat Plus anyone?
This is a serious question>> Does "Support labels with integrity and return faulty products" mean not buying things like this remaster / re-release and then expecting said non-purchase to have an impact upon future releases? How exactly could or would that happen? (I understand the not buying part )
I suspect that the ONLY way it would happen is if a bunch of fans, as in the greater majority, got together online and organised a global boycott of the product, and was able to state clearly and articulately to the suppliers, the reasons for the boycott - being a poor quality product. Maybe that sort of thing might make its way to Robert himself, but I doubt it. Though that whole Ticketmaster thing says there's a possibility of a maybe....
I get the sentiment of preaching the mantra of not accepting poor quality music goods, but few of us could really be bothered with that. Most of us will either a) bitch and moan about it, but buy it anyway, or b) moan about it and not buy it.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that not one of us here will write a letter of complaint that states clearly, with evidence, the problems associated with this and any other releases, and work towards getting that letter to Robert for a discussion.
Luckily for me, my ears are shot to pieces from too many years of loud headphones, loud concerts and gigs, and loud rehearsal room so I can't hear any of the things that are being said about this. To my ears, Paris redux sounds OK.
I'm pissed we don't have a double CD or even a download of each of the Paris 92 shows from the man himself. Booo hooo meeeeee

I'm finding a whealth of quality ROIO's. I'd be more inclined to buy live archive recordings than any new album actually.
That specific shows are not available is lamentable, but generally, there's more than enough available now to make paying for a highlights disc nonsensical.
And photoshop gives me the ability to personalise my collection. It's rather liberating.
It would be so perfect If you would just fall out the window

I also don't get where this "extra detailed" comes from. Only thing they have done to it is up the bass and treble and dynamically compress it. There's nothing that can't be done with 5 dollar software using the original cd as the source.
One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain So hit me with music, hit me with music
