So after a lot of umming and arring, I thought I'd have a crack at starting re-organising my collection into a drive like TheTOOLDrive, APerfectCircleDrive, NINDrive, LiveNirvanaArchive, The Smashing Pumpkins Live Archive, RHCPArchive (and probably many other collections I don't know about, and can't be bothered looking for) for some sort of release out to the world..
I decided I'd go with a folder naming convention of
YYYY-MM-DD
dot
taper initials or 'unk01' (in case there are multiple unknown tapers for a date)
dot
equipment
dash
mics
dot
generation number
dot
format
dot
bitsample
So the Ma.Be 23 April 1992 taped with Aiwa CM30s and aSony WM-D6c would look like this
"TheCure1992-04-23.MaBe.WM-D6c-CM30.0.flac.1644"
Then I would rename the tracks the same as the folder but with a 't' at the end, adding the track number:
TheCure1992-04-23.MaBe.WM-D6c-CM30.0.flac.1644t01
TheCure1992-04-23.MaBe.WM-D6c-CM30.0.flac.1644t02
Then I'd redo the info/text file to look like this:
The Cure

I'd make a little spreadsheet and add in all the information for the show then move onto the next one. On and on.
I had a go at 1979-03-11 tonight and it took me a while to rename the tracks, and do the tagging etc, something like half an hour with all the faffing about on XACT, so I guess it could take less time, but the info file was a bit of a pain...
I figured I could do one a night, nice and cruisey, not taking it too seriously, not devoting too much time to it, but definitely making it a priority each night and getting on with the business of doing it. I'd get some online storage, maybe a Google Drive, and start uploading. My The Cure folder is ~4TB in size so I'd need two Google One accounts as the max they have is 2TB at $124 per year, which I guess is OK...
Then I had a look at how many shows and individual sources (folders) I have listed: 2929 folders for 1251 dates. If I did one source (folder) a night, every night, it would take just over eight years to complete the project. Assuming nothing went wrong... I simply do not have the interest, or motivation to do that, nor do I want to take up the next eight years of my life in doing this.
If anyone else has considered doing this, please feel free to share your story, I'd be interested in what you thought about it.
