It wasn’t until 1985 that Phoenix rose from the fire, propelled by The Cult’s barnstorming, balls-to-the-wall rocker of the same name.
Driven by Billy Duffy’s howling Gretsch Falcon backed with Jamie Stuart’s thundering bass line & an almost sleazy drum beat from Mark Brzezicki, Astbury’s urgent vocals made people sit up & take notice of Phoenix finally after years in the wilderness & boosting the population of Arizona’s capital city to over a million people.
With all these folks crowding up the place, it tends to get incredibly hot in the summer &, thanks to the aforementioned goth rockers’ storming endorsement, the air conditioning industry became a thriving concern, preventing people from moving somewhere altogether more bearable between June & August.
Interestingly, Phoenix defies time itself & refuses to put the clocks back & forth in spring & autumn (known as fall in the local language). So it’s anyone’s guess if I got the countdown timer set to the right time. Thanks Arizona.
Attracted by The Cult’s masterpiece, many famous people decided to be born in the city.
Local word-smith, Eugene Porter honed his mullet-wearing skills in the region and has since been immortalised as a statue.
The Boogeyman helped his hometown out by helping to eat all the invasive worms & Wonder Woman perfected her famous spinning around trick in the suburbs.
There have also been infamous residents. Cross-dressing mummy’s boy, Norman Bates ran a motel in the city & after being subdued at the scene of two brutal stabbings he tried to blame his mum. Who he killed & mummified ten years previously. Naturally no-one believed him & he was locked up for his crimes.
Let’s hope this horrific incident hasn’t put off soitrickmyself2 & fiveswinglive who will be rolling in this evening for some Sonoran hot dogs & a few cold Kilt Lifters before heading off to the Desert Diamond Arena for the main event. Let’s wish them a great show.
