Yes, that’s right. Until Prefab Sprout’s 1988 hit, The King Of Rock ’n’ Roll, Albuquerque was a nowhere town that no-one had even heard of. Or has possible just shied away from as it’s so difficult to spell correctly.
Albuquerque is the highest metropolitan city in the USA. Not only is it at an elevation of 5314 feet (1620 metres or 932 emus or 332 giraffes) but its famously the centre of production of almost pure, blue methamphetamine.
Behind the front of Gustav Fring’s seemingly innocuous chain of chicken shops & industrial laundrette business lies the dark underbelly of cartels all vying for the services of one Walter White AKA Heisenberg who, after being fired from his pizza delivery job, turned his hand to perfecting the schedule II stimulant in his mobile lab.
This caught the attention of Moff Gideon who contacted his twin brother Gustav who, in turn, recruited White & Jesse Pinkman to make the cheerfully coloured blue crystals in his purpose built underground mega lab.
So, if you’re looking for meth this evening, go for the blue stuff. It’s top drawer stuff. So top drawer, there’s even a candy named after it.
Of course, criminal enterprises on this scale bring their own risks. Not least of which is how to launder the ill gotten gains & so the city became the home to one of the greatest legal minds in the country. If not the galaxy.
Other big names hailing from the city include Inspector Gadget, Doogie Howser, Dr Evil, & that guy who plays drums for Ozzy Osbourne. So, if you’re in town, you may bump into one of them.
