Before we go any further, the correct pronunciation of Bordeaux is Bordeaux. If anyone tells you otherwise they are not to be trusted & should be crossed off your xmas card list immediately.
The city of Bordeaux is known generally for it’s deep red colour, fruity flavour and (usually) minimal influence of oak. The English, who typically can’t pronounce them foreign words, often refer to Bordeaux as Claret which is not recognised by most GPS devices.
Having taken its name from the colour of the wine that comes from there, Bordeaux’s (pantone 17-1710 TCX in Latin) history involves quite a bit of turmoil. The Vandals sacked the place touring their When In Rome… album & again to promote the release of the Look What I Stepped In which marked the start of their descent into mass produced, turgid Green Day wannabes. Thankfully the Goths rocked up in 414 to save the day.
Tribes came & went, revolutions saw the heads of Girondists roll &, for a spell, it was renamed after that guy on the back of the US $100 bill. Then, in the 19th century it underwent the Bourbon Restoration.
This was made necessary as the Bonapartists had dis-assemble the world’s most enigmatic biscuit in their quest to eat the chocolate butter-cream filling before dunking the biscuity bits in their cups of tea. The Restoration set about righting this egregious wrong, re-assembling some 3 or 4 hundred of the tea-time favourites into its correct configuration.
With normality restored, the town set about twinning itself with, amongst numerous others, another Bordeaux, this time a little further afield being a small yellow crater on Mars that local dignitaries plan to visit one day to exchange flags & perhaps biscuits & one such dignitary is local icon Benjamin Millepied who made his name as a dancer & choreographer & is unparalleled in his field, utilising his thousand legs to great effect .
Dropping in to La Belle Endormie this evening will be fatrabbit , bloodflowers78 & olivier . They’ll be hot-footing it to the arena after finishing their Boeuf de Bazas complimented with the finest Bordeaux….Old Ale Ambrée. Hope you all have a terrific show today.
