What an utter knob. Recordings are to be shared, unless of course, you are an utter knob. Or asshat. This much you owe, at least, since you don't have the right to the recording, that ultimately belongs to the band.

Yeah at the end of the day, it’s not our right to demand the tapes others make, nor is it a realistic expectation that others think and behave the way we do, or we want them to.
Just because I tape a particular show, and share it out freely, does not mean others have to do the same. I could argue that if that Vienna taper has a copy of my Melbourne 2016 tape, then he owes me a copy of his tape, but that’s not how it works.
I guess I could have held back my tape and traded it for rare stuff, but I chose to not do that.
Oh well, indeed there are plenty of other tapes out there, and I, for one will sleep just fine never hearing that knobber’s tape.

Wise words indeed. I don't need to explain to anyone why I do or don't do something as you are not entitled to ask for my reasons - you are not my mother or wife.
Let me tell you something: A friend of mine was ratted out by some "fan" (a fat ugly US chick according to him) at an U2 show in Rome. We didn't get any police report or fine, but our whole equipment was confiscated and we were able to leave. I was also involved in that incident in the aftermath as my friend led the police into our appartment without search permit. Needless to say there was some financial loss. From this moment on we decided both to share absolutely nothing with "fans" from now on. Also I have a strong dislike for my recordings being used by Japanese bootleg labels; funny fact indeed they used my lossy samples of my Rolling Stones Vienna 2022 show for their latest crap release (a french taper sold them his Lyon single IEM)
I own a large amount of (uncirculated) recordings (being not a devoted Cure collector) so I am not in need of Melbourne or any other shows which do not meet my quality requirements. I can easily live without public available downloads.

This is a common reaction by several tapers, and though it addresses the issue (presumably) for that taper from then on, it delas with the symptom, not the cause. A bit short-sighted really…
There’s not much that can be done about people taking fan tapes and selling them, aside from reporting the listing to the site selling them. Even that won’t fully eradicate the issue. As long as there’s demand for a product, someone will supply it. If something is freely available then it’s leas likely to be paid for, but this won’t eradicate the market for those poor unknowing people. All we can do is try.
As for that story of the taper’s, oh well, that’s very unfortunate, but if you engage in illegal activities, you do run the risk of being caught. I suspect all tapers know this…
The taper and his/her friend’s reaction to one bad apple seems extremely over the top, like they’re punishing a large bunch of “innocents” for one person’s actions. It’s a very strange reaction, to say the least.
And as for not having a right to ask questions, hahaha come on, get off your high horse, you’re no better than the rest of us, I was genuinely curious as to the real, deep, (psychological even) reason for this behaviour. If you refuse to engage in friendly discussions about your behaviour, what are you doing here and why did you share your sample? It comes across as “look what I have that you don’t” …. Which smacks of immaturity, but hey each to their own.
It is an excellent sample, so kudos to you.

Actually your assumptions regarding my person are wrong. I never stated that I am better or something special than other people for e.g., I am gonna simply never asking myself such a question.
As stated before I do not have to justify my behavior to anyone, ask Anton Corbijn why he posted unreleased Joshua Tree Tour video samples on his webpage and tell him the same you are telling me or demand these shows from him.
You have to accept that a "no" means "no", I do the same for my person. If a show isn't available I don't care even knowing it's out there being already saturated.
Taping is not a crime, being a private law matter, the band can sue you for copy right infringement if they prefer to do so (U2 or their management refused to do so on the spot btw.) Many tapers got ratted out by people having simply fun putting other people in trouble, being not a unique case, kind of German Blockwart mentality I assume. I also don't care about this incident anymore just looking forward. Actio est Reactio quite a simple process and easy to follow, carved in stone forever.
The rating of your Melbourne tape is my personal opinion nothing more, just my matter of fact not to be considered as a personal offense, if you are happy with your recording it's fine. I assume you are taking your hobby much too serious otherwise you wouldn't be in such a lenghty conversation

Of course you didn't state that, but it certainly comes across that way... and of course you don't have to justify your behaviour, but you KNOW that it will ruffle some feathers, and you clearly enjoy your position of "power".. otherwise you wouldn't have posted it for all to see, hear, and not have. It's a bit sad, really.
I'm not demanding anything, I was asking and didn't like your answer. Just because I accept something, doesn't mean I have to agree with it, or the sentiment behind it. Or am I not allowed to do that either?
You assume too much, you know nothing about me (or do you? lololol). I enjoy talking about this stuff with these fine folk, of course I'm going to write about this. Have a look at my other posts, some of them are quite lengthy, doesn't mean I take it "too seriously"..
