Today will be The Cure’s 5th visit to the Mediolanum Forum in Milan..
It’s the home of the basketball team AX Armani Exchange Milan so if you’re at a concert & you’re stood behind a very tall person in a singlet, shorts & a pair of hi-tops, chances are it’s one of them waiting for the show to finish so they can finish their game. But don’t be shy. If you ask them nicely they’ll usually film the best youtube videos for you.
It’s considered an alpha global city which means it’s still not yet in beta and so is still very buggy and nowhere ready for final release.
In 539 it was the main battleground in the Gothic War when the Ostrogoths (who had very long necks) started violent protests over the building of a Hot Topic on Via Harar as it was seen to be too close to their ancient, sacred place of worship. To this day there is still no facile pseudo alternative clothing & general tat store selling Ramones t-shirts to 12-year olds anywhere in the city.
The etymology of the name is unclear with Roman & Celtic links and even a furry pig called Scrofa semilanuta which is ancient Milanish for Mr Scruffy Porker.
But what I learnt from the bloke down the pub may surprise you. It did me.
The name does not, despite the incorrect teachings of many scholars, come from the title of no fewer than 5 Bollywood films, but from one of Ford’s little known 4-door sedans, the Mercury Milan which is based on famous long-time resident Leo Davinci’s sketch. This is corroborated by the Italians’ deep love of cars & seems very logical……. after a few whisky chasers.
Fascinating stuff that could pave the way for Fascination Street to be played later.
& speaking of later, charlottemargita , fabio71 , TemptationTwo , & holdenholland who will have had their fill of Trippa alla Milanese with a few crafty Schiscia i Balls (seeing as it’s autumn) are our intrepid gig-goers today. We hope you don’t get stuck behind 2.05m tall Nicolo Melli & that you have a wonderful show.
