Today marks the first time The Cure have played in Hamburg…..this decade. So we are all really excited for this historic moment.
Officially named the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, it is the largest non-capital city in the European Union boasting around 1.85m residents
But a little-known fact about the city is that it adopted its shortened name from a (pre-pickle era) popular fast food snack enjoyed the world over. This initially drew ire from Frankfurt which claimed it had cornered the market in fast food themed city names. But the two came to an amicable agreement on the grounds that their inspirations were entirely different shapes & would never be confused by the average consumer. Bloke down the pub came through for me again

The city secured starring roles in several movies such as Charlie’s Angels, The Great Escape & the Bond classic, Tomorrow Never Dies, where James notably crashes his remote controlled BMW into the local car rental store-front.
Musically, Hamburg has a strong tradition of producing up-tempo, radio-riendly pop combos such as Helloween, disco behemoths KMFDM, & the eternally cheery tones of Xmal Deutschland so The Cure should find some decent music on the tour bus radio to jig around to & get in the zone.
We have quite the crowd attending this show with andy , maccatori , snoopy , cured , freemartin , wilgy , pillowman , johnz , wilco , curetheclown , ruegi dropping by, no doubt buoyed by Friday night’s emphatic 3-0 victory for FC St Pauli in the Hamburg derby.
Fresh off the back of a slap up meal of finkenwerder scholle & rote grütze they should be fuelled up & ready to go & we hope you all have a terrific time
The city’s flag is not a million miles away from the unofficial one of Copenhagen with just the wavy bits at the bottom missing. Now I was going to use the St Pauli colours but, as the home strip is black, it’s probably better I don’t.
