I thought the Dream Tour was solely a vehicle (in the absence of any other serious marketing like singles etc.) to promote Bloodflowers & JLH got a run out most nights on that tour. Boys Don't Cry,10:15 Saturday Night, &
Killing An Arab also got a few outings in NA & Australia.
They're not going to drop the pop. It gave them a whole new audience & an audience that pays good money to go & see a band play the songs that maybe first turned them on to The Cure.
Besides. It's great to have a nice mix of gloom & pop in the set to appeal to the whole audience. Dropping all the hits would instantly exclude a lot of people from enjoying a great night out & going home on a high.
& what they've done in recent tours is quite clever. A largely mixed bag of back catalogue songs for the main part & pop to finish. Keeps the "pop fans" there & introduces them to material they're maybe not so familiar with while also giving the "drop the pop" crowd the option of leaving before it gets all jolly safe in the knowledge that they'll not need to stick around for their old faves as they've likely been played or won't be.
