Second night and we’re in Helsinki. Home of NOKIA (sort of).
Named after the 2009 blockbuster crime drama, Hellsinki, the city can be found on the shores of Gulf Of Finland, or, even on google maps on one of those fancy phones they’re famous for.
Just like almost every other country in the world, Helsinki airport follows tradition in that it’s in a different city altogether so it’s a bit of a trek to get to the venue which is….wait for it…. yes. Another ice hockey stadium. So everyone dress warm & wear shoes with lots of grip.
The city is steeped in cinematic history, most notably for it’s portrayal of Moscow in 80’s mystery thriller, Gorky Park. So skilful was Helsinki, it managed to play 2 roles. The KGB headquarters & Moscow’s militia headquarters. A detail you may have missed due to Lee Marvin & William Hurt hogging the limelight.
As for the musical history, rock runs thick in the veins of Fins. Michael Monroe of Hanoi Rocks being one of the capital’s most famous exports. But let’s not forget the legends that are Lordi. The musical band of Orcs who famously tore up the Eurovision rulebook in 2006 with their winning song Hard Rock Hallelujah.
So, with the history covered, making their way to the ice rink this evening will be nothingleftbutfaith , czuczu , wilgy , eyemou , & scardwel who will obviously be stopping off to enjoy some Muikku and a glass or two of Sahti. And we hope they have a splendid show after such a feast.
Hopefully, signal permitting we’ll be getting live updates direct from one of those NOKIA devices. So fingers crossed
On the colours front today, It seems the city flag is practically the same colour blue as that of Riga with just a bit more yellow. So I think we’ll go with that.
