Robert is a very down to earth person...but he has a presence when he walks into a room. He knows what he wants and nothing is going to stand in the way of how he presents himself. He won’t do interviews for the sake of it, he won’t do pictures for the sake of it; there always has to be a reason and he’ll put his all into it.
Oh, sure! That presence is the ghost that always follows him!
I recognize this is Paul Cox's interpretation of RS' behavior, but I do admire him for this. Why waste your time (and other people's) doing things you aren't invested in and pretending to be someone else?
While we were putting the book together he was actually moving house at one point. He didn’t get people in to do it for him. At one point he told me, ‘Oh, this is the 10th trip I’ve done in a van!’
Thank goodness. If he were a prima donna I'd have no respect for him and it would likely color how I feel about his work. Some years ago on here, in a thread about what you'd ask members of TC, I said I wanted to know if they knew how to properly clean a toilet. He'd better be able to have a conversation about how to get under the rim. I have a feeling he can do all sorts of tasks around the home himself rather than having his handlers (lol) do them. Mad respect.
