Seemed to branch into an interesting discussion so may be worth opening up here so as not to take the Glasgow thread too far off beam
Could The Cure return to smaller venues? Or mid sized?
Thoughts.
Good question.
Which is almost as good as why did they play 7 venues in Germany & 4 in Italy in 2016 & only 2 in the UK?
Scotland has some pretty big venues & has for a while now. So there's really no good reason not have gone for almost 3 decades unless the promoters simply ignored the place.

They need to get in with SJM, booked our lot at some great Scottish venues. Barrowlands is ace!!

i honestly don’t think they/robert are confident of doing a u.k ‘tour’.
when was the last time? ‘96?
a tour of smaller venues would be amazing ( for us in the uk😉 )
Barrowlands would be a little small for The Cure these days though wouldn't it?
it would be brilliant, much better than playing in a huge field to people waiting for ‘friday...’. (miaoooow)
imagine the setlist if they played small, intimate gigs...and the atmosphere would be unreal

They'd have to have a practical residency due to demand for tickets.
But even multiple nights at those places would be cool
edit. This might be a good thread to open, so I might split this topic off if it gets traction
It always felt to me that there was no confidence to play many none London UK shows again after this and let’s face it they only needed even one London show on the 2001 and 2008 tours!
The tide seemed to turn in 2016, but let’s face it times have changed as well since 96, I’d wager an absolutely huge amount of people travel abroad for shows compared to then (it’s so much cheaper to fly now) and that has to have made an impact as the UK shows tend to attract travelers more than most.
As for steve comment on all the German shows. As a resident and visitor for a while they’ve never had problems selling out shows here, they even played 9 shows on that undersold 96 tour and also I believe they have a good long standing relationship with the german promoter Karsten Jahnke, indeed Robert even name checked him at the Hamburg show in November 2002 as they were I believe asked to be the first band to play at the then brand new arena.

And why have they been so long with no Scottish dates? I’m so curious about it.

The 2014 Hammersmith and RAH gigs were spectacular, I reckon it'll be a while before we get anything like that again. Some of my fav's have been the big ones tho
Totally agree that RAH and Hammersmith were totally classic Cure gigs. Wasn't at the more recent Manchester show but again it seems the crowd wasn't fussed so they did a shorter set. Maybe it's better here because they have such a worldwide appeal and many non British people will travel to London or already live here. UK tours are no go it seems these days.
I think for a band that draws as many fans as The Cure do, the number of suitable venues in the UK is maybe limited & a UK "tour" would end up being 5, maybe 6 places.

Well they cancelled 2 shows in Scotland in 96, and all UK shows that survived were poorly attended!
